Opening Kick
• Navy and VMI will meet on the gridiron for the 11th time when the two square off on CBS Sports Network on Saturday afternoon (12 noon) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. Saturday's contest is presented by Navy Mutual.
• Saturday's game marks the first time these two schools have met since 2014 when Navy won 51-14. Eight of the 10 previous meetings have taken place in Annapolis with the Mids playing in Lexington in 1973 and the two played a neutral site game in Nofolk in 1963. The Navy-VMI series began in 1898 with Navy winning 21-5.
• Navy will start the year with 4 of its first-5 and 5 of its first-7 games at home. The Mids will finish the year with 4 of its final-5 games away from Annapolis.
• The last five times that Navy has won the season opener it has gone on to play in a bowl game. The last time Navy lost the season opener and still qualified for a bowl game was in 2014 when the Mids lost to eventual national champion Ohio State in Baltimore 34-17, but went on to finish 8-5 and defeat San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl.
• Navy has gone to a bowl game in 11 of the last 12 years it has won its season opener.
• Navy has won 72-consecutive games at home when leading after 3 quarters, the nation's longest streak. The last time Navy lost at home when leading after 3 quarters was Oct. 23, 1999, when the Mids led Akron 29-13 and lost 35-29.
• Navy finished #1 in the country in red zone touchdown percentage in 2024, scoring a touchdown 81 percent of the time (34 TDs / 42 att.).
• Navy finished #4 in the country in red zone defense in 2024, giving up just 30 scores (23 TDs, 7 FGs) in 43 attempts.
•
Blake Horvath (Sr. / QB) has thrown just 4 interceptions in 151-career attempts for an interception percentage of .026 per attempt, the 2nd-best average in school history. The Navy record is .017 set by current Navy radio analyst Keenan Reynolds, who threw just 8 interceptions in 462-career attempts.
• Horvath ranked 6th in the FBS in ESPN's QBR Rating (83.4) in 2024 and is the only player who finished in the top 6 returning in 2025.
• Horvath's career 164.4 pass efficiency rating is the highest of any quarterback in Service Academy history with 150 or more attempts. Dating back to 1956, he is one of just 35 quarterbacks in FBS history to have a career passing efficiency of 164.0 or better with 150 or more passing attempts.
• Horvath and Malcolm Perry (2016-19) are the only two Navy football players to have 2 runs of 90 yards or more in a career.
• Horvath's average of 7.9 yards per play over his career is the 2nd-best mark in school history. Shun White holds the record at 8.9 (2005-08).
•
Eli Heidenreich's (Sr. / Snipe) 10 career touchdown catches are tied for the 3rd most in school history and he is just 3 away from tying the school record set by Rob Taylor (1965-67) and Phil McConkey (1975-78).
• Either Heidenreich or
Alex Tecza (Sr. / RB) have scored a touchdown for Navy in 18 of their 23 career games (they have scored in the same game 5 times). Heidenreich has 14-career touchdowns (4 rush, 10 rec.), while Tecza has 15 (13 rush, 2 rec.).
