ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Coming off another stellar performance,
Zanai Barnett-Gay from the Navy women's basketball team was selected as the NAAA Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 18.
In Navy's only game of the week after Lehigh forfeited Saturday's schedule showdown in Annapolis, Barnett-Gay led the Mids to a dominant 86-68 victory over the American University Eagles on Wednesday. Playing at home against American, the junior guard posted team-highs of 24 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals. Barnett-Gay played a leading role in the Mids' breaking out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter over the Eagles and an overall lead of 22-6 through 10 minutes of action as she had a +15 with four points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal for the period.
As part of Navy's current three-game winning streak, Barnett-Gay has been on the precipice of a triple-double in all three victories and has averaged 20.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 3.0 steals per game with only one total turnover to her name during this stretch, while the Mids have averaged 86.7 points per game.
Barnett-Gay and the Mids will be back in action on Wednesday night with a road matchup at Holy Cross. Tip-off in Worcester, Mass. is set for 6 p.m.
