BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy's
Danny Wask earned the first Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Wrestler of the Week award of the season for the Midshipmen, the conference announced today.
Â
Wask won all five of his matches to claim the 174-pound championship at the Soldier Salute and was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. It marked the second-straight year a Navy wrestler earned the Outstanding Wrestler honor at the tournament, as
Josh Koderhandt captured the accolade last season after winning the 141-pound title.
Â
The Wantage, N.J., native capped his tournament with a 4-1 sudden-victory decision over Iowa's Gabe Arnold in the finals. He also recorded a 17-1 technical fall against unattached Paolo Ciatto, pinned Missouri's Kolten Oborny in 1:58 and added a 14-3 major decision over Iowa State's Jacob Helgeson. Wask reached the championship match with an 8-2 victory over Nebraska's Tyler Eise.
Â
Navy will travel to face EIWA-rival Lehigh on Saturday, Jan. 17, in Bethlehem, Pa., at 2 p.m.
