MARIETTA, Ga. – The Navy men's rugby team (6-0, 4-0 Rugby East) relied on a strong defensive effort and a balanced attack to secure a 27-10 road victory over Life (1-2, 1-1 Rugby East) in a pivotal Rugby East meeting on Saturday afternoon in Marietta, Georgia.
The victory keeps the Midshipmen in control of their own destiny as they chase a fifth-consecutive conference championship, extending their Rugby East winning streak to 10 games dating back to the 2024-25 season.
Navy showcased a balanced offensive effort in the victory.
Aidan Gerber,
Andrew Baublitz,
Maximus Buono and
Waylon Davis each recorded a try, while
Kade Williams anchored the kicking game with seven points off two conversions and a late penalty kick.
"Our men were very good today," Navy director of rugby
Gavin Hickie said. "We had to contend with a number of challenges throughout the game yet the men showed composure, confidence and outstanding character. I am immensely proud of everyone within Navy Rugby today. This was a massive team effort and to come away from Life with a bonus point win shows our intention."
Life struck first with a penalty kick in the eighth minute, but Navy quickly settled in. After a physical back-and-forth, Gerber found a gap in the defense at the 16:30 mark for the team's first try and Williams slotted the conversion. Nine minutes later, Baublitz capped a sustained offensive drive with a try of his own, giving Navy a 14-3 advantage following another Williams kick.
The Midshipmen carried that momentum into the second half. Buono powered across the line in the 43rd minute to push the lead to 19-3.
Life managed to answer with a converted try in the 60th minute, but Navy's defense — which has allowed 14 points or fewer in every match — quickly shut down any hopes of a comeback.
Davis put the game out of reach just five minutes later, breaking loose for Navy's fourth try of the afternoon. Williams then iced the 27-10 victory with a 76th-minute penalty kick.
Navy will look to keep its undefeated season alive when it returns to action next Saturday, traveling to face Mount St. Mary's at 11 a.m.
