Men’s Soccer Treks to William & Mary for Final Non-Conference Match

Navy Enters Tuesday on Four-Game Unbeaten Streak Against Non-Conference Opponents

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Fresh off its high-scoring win over rival Army, the Navy men's soccer team (3-5-4, 1-3-1 PL) is set for its final non-conference match of the season Tuesday night, traveling to William & Mary (6-5-1, 2-2-1 CAA) for a 6:00 p.m. contest at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field in Williamsburg, Va.

Marking the Midshipmen's first visit to Williamsburg since 1997, Tuesday's game will be streamed on FloCollege and the FloSports Channel on Prime Video.

Sullivan, Brown and Smith Win Patriot League Weekly Honors
Three members of Navy earned weekly honors from the Patriot League on Monday, as juniors Duncan Sullivan and Keane Brown were named the league's Midfielder of the Week and Defender of the Week, respectively, while freshman Will Smith was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Week … All three players were crucial in the Mids' 4-3 win over rival Army on Friday in Army-Navy Cup XV, as Sullivan netted a goal and two assists while Brown and Smith both scored in the program's first star victory over the Black Knights since 2021 … It is the second time Sullivan has earned Midfielder of the Week in his career, while Brown and Smith's weekly honors are the first of their college careers.

Navy in Non-Conference
The Mids have posted a 2-2-3 record in non-conference matches this season, including riding a four-game unbeaten streak over its last four non-conference contests … Jack Illig and Cohen Nance are tied for the team lead with two goals (four points) in the Mids' seven non-conference games … Navy's last completed non-conference game was the 2-0 victory at Longwood on Sept. 15, as Illig and Ronan Harding both scored to support Sam Clark's six-save shutout … Navy is 1-1-2 in road non-conference games this year.

Last Time Out
With Gavin McBride giving the Mids their fourth and final lead of the night in the 85th minute, Navy pulled out the 4-3 Star victory over rival Army at Subaru Park in Friday night's Army-Navy Cup XV … Using four different goal scorers, Navy started the high-scoring affair with Will Smith's team-leading third goal at 35' before an own goal sent the team into the half even … While a highlight-reel score from Keane Brown at 54' and Duncan Sullivan's header at 70' were both answered by the Black Knights, McBride got the star-winning goal in the waning minutes of the second half to put the Mids on top in front of 10,597 fans … Making his first start since his Aug. 23 injury, Dylan Carmody made three saves for the winning decision.

Clark Stepping Up
After Dylan Carmody went down with his injury in the second game of the season, Sam Clark stepped into the starting role and solidified the Mids' net while going 2-4-4 … Dating back to the Aug. 28 match against George Washington through the Sept. 12 game at Holy Cross, Clark had posted a shutout streak of 408:29 … Clark's three-straight shutouts from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8 were the most by a Navy netminder since Pierce Holbrook's three consecutive clean sheets from Sept. 19-30, 2023 … Clark's .776 save percentage and 1.20 goals against average both sit third in the league … The .776 save percentage ranks 41st in the country and his 38 total saves stand 73rd in Division I.

Navy Notes
Nick Gallucci is tied for first in the Patriot League with four assists on the season, while Will Cawlfield and Duncan Sullivan's three assists apiece are tied for fourth … Will Smith's three goals are good to be tied for third in league scoring … Sullivan sits third in the Patriot League with 25 total shots and fourth with 13 shots on goal … Navy is 5-0-2 when Sullivan records a point, while the Mids are 3-1-3 when Gallucci tallies a point and 2-0-3 when Cawlfield registers a point … Friday's win over Army marked the 50th collegiate victory for Navy head coach John Hackworth, tallying 47 wins at South Florida from 1998-2001 and three wins during his first season at Navy.

Scouting the Opponent
William & Mary enters Tuesday at 6-5-1 overall following a dominant 4-0 victory over Howard on Thursday, as Aidan Gatchell scored twice and added an assist … W&M has scored 25 goals through 12 matches, ranking second in the CAA with 2.08 goals per game … The Tribe has been particularly productive in the second half, scoring 17 of its 25 goals after halftime … Gatchell leads the Tribe with 16 points on five goals and six assists, being named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday … Gabe Ruitenberg ranks second on the Tribe with 14 points on four goals and six assists … Diego Garciarena has started all 12 matches in goal for the Tribe, recording 45 saves and three shutouts.

Series History
Navy is 5-8-4 in the all-time series with William & Mary … Last year's 1-1 draw on Aug. 25 in Annapolis snapped a two-game winning streak by the Tribe in the series, as Will Cawlfield scored for Navy and Dylan Carmody collected two saves in his first career start … The Mids last win over the Tribe was a 1-0 win in Annapolis on Nov. 9, 2001 … Navy is 0-3-1 all-time against William & Mary in Williamsburg, with the last meeting in Williamsburg being a 2-0 Tribe win on Sept. 20, 1997.
