ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's rugby team (6-0) claimed the top overall spot in the season's first Collegiate Rugby Association of America (CRAA) Division I-A power rankings, announced by the association today.
The Midshipmen are playing strong two-way rugby as they chase a fifth-consecutive conference crown. Navy's offense is averaging 7.6 tries per game, while the defense has surrendered just four tries all year.
Navy has already picked up three decisive victories over CRAA top-10 opponents: #3 Army (26-14), #5 Life (27-10) and #8 Mary Washington (55-6). The schedule remains challenging over the next three weeks with a trio of ranked contests against #12 Mount St. Mary's, #7 Saint Mary's and #9 Penn State.
Up next, Navy hits the road for the final time this fall to face Mount St. Mary's. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Echo Field in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
