Women’s Tennis Hosts Saturday Doubleheader, Heads to Delaware on Sunday

Navy Welcomes Georgetown and Towson on Saturday, Visits the Blue Hens to Close Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After an impressive three-match stretch last weekend, the Navy women's tennis team (7-4) is set for another loaded slate that will see the team finish its homestand on Saturday and then take a short trip Sunday to close out the weekend.
 
The Midshipmen open the weekend with a home doubleheader Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center, facing Georgetown (2-2) at 10:00 a.m. and playing Towson (3-2) at 2:00 p.m., while Navy ends the two-day stretch with a 4:30 p.m. Sunday match against Delaware (4-2) at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del.
 
Fermo Named PL Player of the Week
Becoming the third member of Navy's team to claim the honor in a four-week span, junior Olivia Fermo was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Tuesday … Fermo posted a 4-0 combined record as part of Navy's impressive weekend, helping the Mids nearly upset Virginia Tech before notching wins over Villanova and George Mason … Going 2-0 at the No. 2 singles spot, Fermo also tallied a 2-0 doubles record besides partner Nicole Fu … The award marks Fermo's first weekly league honor of her career and the Mids' third weekly accolade of the season after Fu claimed the award on Jan. 27 and sophomore Peyton Amspacher-Philemon notched the honor on Feb. 10.
 
Scouting the Mids
Leading the team with a 19-5 singles record is freshman Nicole Fu, while junior Olivia Fermo ranks second on the Mids with a 17-6 singles mark … Fermo and Fu have partnered to post a team-leading 14-7 doubles record … Sophomore Grace Li and freshman Anna Wiskowski have gone 4-0 as a doubles pairing so far, while junior Anna Jordaan and sophomore Peyton Amspacher-Philemon have notched a 5-1 doubles mark together … Overall, Fermo has a team-best 15 doubles wins … Amspacher-Philemon has won her last six singles matches
 
Last Time Out
Coming home after a near-upset of Virginia Tech last Saturday in a 4-3 road loss, Navy rolled to a pair of wins in a Sunday doubleheader at home, stifling Villanova by a 6-1 score before posting a 7-0 victory over George Mason … Highlighted by sophomore Emma Gu and freshman Nicole Fu both going a combined 3-0 for the day, the Mids posted a 15-2 record on Sunday between doubles and singles play to continue their dominance over the Wildcats and Patriots.
 
Scouting Georgetown
The Hoyas opened the spring with a 6-1 loss at Maryland and bounced back with a 4-3 win over Howard … GU then dropped a close BIG EAST opener at DePaul, 4-3, but recovered the next day at Marquette to earn a 6-1 victory … The trio of Ruhika Bhat, Julio Chu and Katie Garofolo-Ro each boast a 3-1 record in singles matches this season … Last year's Georgetown team wrapped up with an 8-11 mark and a 4-5 conference record.
 
Scouting Towson
The Tigers started the dual season with a win over Rider in the fall, while the spring has seen Towson take down Mary Washington and Swarthmore but drop contests to Johns Hopkins and Fairfield … Chandrè Boshoff and Kiersten Tambe were named the CAA Women's Doubles Team of the Week on Tuesday after posting a 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles the previous week … Ashira Murray is a perfect 5-0 this season and has now eight straight singles matches dating back to last spring … A 7-9 overall record by Towson last season was supported by a 4-4 CAA mark.
 
Scouting Delaware
A spring-opening win over Bellarmine for the Blue Hens was followed by a loss to Liberty in its first CUSA match, but Delaware responded with victories against Villanova and FDU while a loss at Rutgers was followed by a 6-1 win over Seton Hall last Friday … Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska picked up CUSA Doubles Team of the Week nod on Wednesday, marking Hrynashka's third CUSA laurel of the year and Jurkowska's first … Amelia Gorman picked up CUSA Player of the Week nod on Feb. 4, her 24th-career weekly laurel and first as a Fightin' Blue Hen … Hanna Vinahradava paces the team with a 12-1 singles record this season, while Hrynashka and Jurkowska have a team-best 11-6 doubles record together … Last season saw Delaware go 18-8 overall, tallying a 4-0 CAA record.
