HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Led by a top-5 performance from junior
Emma Tang, the Navy women's golf team used a good finish to grab a share of fourth place in Monday and Tuesday's El Campeon Collegiate at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Being played on the par-72, 6,109-yard El Campeon course, the 54-hole tournament saw the Midshipmen shoot a 42-over par 330 in Monday's opening round to sit fourth early before posting a 37-over par 325 in the event's second round. Navy then tallied a 39-over par 327 in the final round Tuesday to pull into a tournament score of 118-over par 982, putting the Mids tied with Patriot League rival Lehigh for fourth place in the 11-team field.
North Dakota State took home the team title with a 79-over par 943 event score, while the Bison's Norah Roberts claimed the individual medal by registering an 11-over par 227 for the tournament.
Tang paced the Mids with her fifth-place finish at 21-over par 237, notching her best round of the week with a 75 on Monday before closing the event with rounds of 80 and 82.
Fellow junior
Keira Howard just missed out on a top-10 placement herself, shooting a 27-over par 243 and tying for 12th on the leaderboard, as she rebounded from an opening-round 87 to end the event with rounds of 76 and 80.
Finishing tied for 23rd with a score of 33-over par 249, freshman
Angelina Kim wrapped up with three-straight rounds of 83, while sophomore
Vivian Cressman shot a 38-over par 254 (85-87-82) to tie for 33rd in the player standings. Rounding out the lineup, junior
Una Johnson placed 47th with a 51-over par 267 total (97-86-84).
Competing individually, senior
Sue Lee came in 37th, using rounds of 78, 93 and 85 to close out a tournament score of 40-over par 256.
Navy continues its spring slate March 16-17 with the Magnolia Collegiate in Mobile, Ala.
