Women’s Tennis Wraps Homestand with GW and Saint Joseph’s

Navy Looking to Extend Four-Match Winning Streak in Final Contests Before Spring Break

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Riding a four-match winning streak, the Navy women's tennis team (9-4) will play host to another doubleheader on Sunday, March 1 at the Tose Family Tennis Center, welcoming George Washington (3-4) for a 10:00 a.m. contest before playing Saint Joseph's (1-6) at 2:00 p.m.
 
The Midshipmen will wrap up a six-match homestand with Sunday's twin-bill, also marking the Mids' final action before their spring break trip March 9-10 in Orlando, Fla.
 
Scouting the Mids
Leading the team with a 20-5 singles record is freshman Nicole Fu, while junior Olivia Fermo ranks second on the Mids with a 17-7 singles mark and sophomore Emma Gu holds a 17-8 singles record … Fermo and Fu have partnered to post a team-leading 15-7 doubles record … Junior Anna Jordaan and sophomore Peyton Amspacher-Philemon have notched a 6-1 doubles mark together, including a perfect 5-0 record as the No. 2 pairing … Overall, Fermo and Fu each have a team-best 16 doubles wins … Amspacher-Philemon has won her last seven singles matches, while Gu and fellow sophomore Ji Soo Oh have four-match singles win streaks.
 
Last Time Out
Extending its winning streak to four matches, Navy pulled out a pair of home victories last Saturday, knocking off Georgetown by a 5-1 score before holding on for a 4-3 win over Towson … The Mids sprinted out to early leads in both matches by claiming the doubles points, while Peyton Amspacher-Philemon against the Hoyas and Anna Jordaan over the Tigers provided the match-clinching wins in singles action … Navy moved to 9-3 in the all-time series with Georgetown … The Mids also improved to 15-0 all-time against Towson.
 
Scouting George Washington
The Revolutionaries opened the spring with a pair of victories over Mount St. Mary's and Coppin State, while a three-match losing streak was snapped by a 5-2 win over Loyola … GW began Atlantic-10 play on Tuesday, falling to defending conference champion VCU in a 4-1 battle … Solange Skeene has paced the team this spring, posting a 4-3 singles record at the top spot … Madison Lee and Karen Verduzco have partnered for a team-best 4-3 doubles mark this spring, playing all seven matches as the No. 1 duo … Last season ended with a 6-12 overall record for GW, with the Revs tallying a 2-5 conference mark.
 
Scouting Saint Joseph's
The Hawks started the spring with a 4-3 win at Oral Roberts, but have dropped six-straight contests entering Sunday … In last Sunday's 6-1 loss to Lehigh, Saint Joseph's saw Valeria Casusol and June Tronhus win their second-flight doubles match while Gisele Tang won a point in the sixth-flight singles spot … SJU finished last season with a 6-19 overall mark and a 2-6 Atlantic-10 Conference record, as Wiktoria Czerny paced the team with a 12-10 singles record and the duo of Charlotte Kordonowy and Brooke Tackett registered a team-best 8-10 doubles mark.

Navy has gone 6-7 in the all-time series with George Washington … Last year's 5-2 loss to GW on Feb. 2 ended a four-match winning streak by the Mids in the all-time series, despite Sylvia Eklund picking up wins at No. 1 singles and doubles courts … Navy holds a 12-1 all-time record against Saint Joseph's, including a 10-match winning streak entering Sunday's nightcap … Last season's meeting with SJU on April 15 saw Navy take a 6-1 win in Philadelphia, as the Mids put themselves in front early by sweeping the three doubles matches before notching five straight-set victories in singles action.
