Baseball Continues Homestand with Midweek Action Against Coppin State

Navy Holds a 26-9-1 Edge in the All-Time Series with Coppin State

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After taking two of three in its weekend series, the Navy baseball team (7-3) continues its homestand Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Coppin State (0-7) at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.
 
First pitch between the Midshipmen and Eagles is set for 3:05 p.m., with Joe Miller calling the game on the Navy Athletics YouTube channel.
 
Phypers Named PL Pitcher of the Week
Navy freshman Owen Phypers was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon … Phypers threw seven scoreless frames in the Mids' 4-0 win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday, as the rookie tallied four strikeouts while limiting the Bonnies to four hits and three walks … With Sunday's performance, Phypers became the first Navy freshman to have a scoreless seven-inning outing since Noah Song on April 17, 2016 against Lehigh, while the righty also became the first Mid to throw seven shutout innings since Brady Bendik accomplished the feat in back-to-back starts last season (March 28 at Army and April 5 vs. Lafayette) … Previously named the league's Rookie of the Week on Feb. 16, Phypers has a 1.06 ERA through his first three college starts, allowing just two runs over 17 innings.
 
Midweek Mania
The Mids went 6-3 in midweek contests last season under head coach Chuck Ristano after going 5-4 in 2024 … Navy went 4-2 in midweek home games last year … Victor Izquierdo batted .379 in midweek contests last year, racking up 11 hits and 16 RBI in those nine games … Mason Ceccarelli posted a .333 average and .515 on-base percentage over seven midweek starts as a rookie … Ty DePerno hit .308 in midweeks last season while also tallying 12 walks in nine games for a .525 on-base clip … Jack Killelea batted .467 while making four midweek starts in 2025, scoring six times … Making three midweek appearances, Spencer Stephens tallied a 1.80 ERA across five innings while striking out seven.
 
Home Sweet Home in 2025
Navy finished 18-14 in home games last season, batting .273 as a team in Annapolis … Andrew Manning paced the Mids with a .340 home average in 2025, scoring 25 times and driving in 17 more runs in 31 home starts while also adding eight doubles and two homers … Jack Killelea hit .343 in just 22 home games last season, scoring 14 runs … Mason Ceccarelli totaled a .321 average and .542 on-base percentage in 21 home games, making 18 home starts … Tyler Bouchard batted .283 at home last year while also swiping 10 bases in 17 home starts … Spencer Stephens finished with a 2.53 ERA over 13 home outings, striking out 24 in 21.1 innings, while Matt Archibald had a 2.89 home ERA over eight appearances (six starts), punching out 43 in just 28 frames.

Andrew Manning has mashed at the friendly confines of Max Bishop Stadium during his three seasons, posting a .338 career average in home games while racking up 52 runs scored and 33 RBI in 60 contests … Victor Izquierdo has hit .271 with 55 RBI across 61 home starts in his four seasons with the Mids, notching 17 doubles and three homers … Jack Killelea holds a lifetime home average of .347 over 35 games, scoring 25 runs while driving in 13 more.
 
Scouting Coppin State
After having their opening weekend with Lafayette canceled, the Eagles started the campaign with a midweek loss to Mount St. Mary's before suffering three-game sweeps at Oklahoma and against La Salle … Angel Garcia has paced Coppin State with a .333 batting average, scoring a team-high four runs while collecting two extra-base hits … Noah Hogan leads CSU with six RBI while Marcus Sanders has tallied a team-best two doubles … Nelson Grajales enters Tuesday on a five-game on-base streak while Garcia has tallied hits in each of his last four contests … CSU's Justin Ritz was one of 104 players named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year award's 2026 Preseason Watch List, earning All-NEC Second Team honors last season and pacing the conference with seven saves … The Eagles ended 2025 with a 15-34 overall record while going 13-17 in NEC action.
