Men’s Tennis to Play Terriers Sunday in League Opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will open its 2026 Patriot League season Sunday when the Mids (16-14) play host to Boston University (5-8, 1-0) at 9 a.m. at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.  A second team of Navy players also will play at James Madison (8-5) Sunday at 11 a.m.

A link to live results from the match against the Dukes can be found at NavySports.com.

Navy
The Mids split the four matches they played last week during their spring break trip to Southern California.  Navy posted victories over UC Riverside (5-2) and Air Force (4-1), dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to UC San Diego and fell to UC Irvine (7-0).

Herrick Legaspi won both of his No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles matches against UCSD and Air Force to be named this week's Patriot League Player of the Week.

Boston
The Terriers will play Saturday at George Mason before facing the Mids on Sunday.  Boston earned a 4-3 victory over Colgate in the team's first league match this spring.

Navy and Boston each have lost to Brown, the Mids have defeated both Drexel and Bryant and the Terriers have lost matches to the Dragons and Bulldogs.

Last season saw Boston post a 1-14 overall record and finish the Patriot League regular season winless in six matches.

Navy holds a 12-4 lead in the series with Boston, which includes a 4-3 mark in league regular season matches and a 3-2 record in matches played in Annapolis.  The Mids won a pair of matches against the Terriers last season, winning by scores of 7-0 during the regular season and 4-0 in the league tournament.

James Madison
The Dukes will play at Georgia Southern on Friday in their second Sun Belt Conference match of the year.  James Madison won a 4-3 decision over South Alabama in its first Sun Belt match.  That was one of five matches played by the Dukes in which the final score was 4-3.  JMU has posted a 4-1 record in those matches.

The Dukes finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 7-12 and a 1-6 mark against Sun Belt opponents.

Navy enters the match with a 6-5 lead in the series, but James Madison has won the last four matches.  This includes a 5-2 win in 2022 and 7-0 victories in 2023 and '24.
