Navy Lacrosse Returns Home for the First Time in Three Weeks, Set to Play Host to Colgate

Setting the Stage
• Opening Draw:
Navy (6-3, 2-1 Patriot League) will close out the month of March playing its first home game since March 7 when it plays host to Colgate (2-6, 1-3 Patriot League) on Saturday. Faceoff is slated for 12:00 pm at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Navy is led by Joe Amplo, who has put together a 49-36 record in his 7 seasons at the helm of the Mids' program, while Colgate's Matt Karweck has posted a 33-61 record in 8 seasons as the Raiders' head coach. The contest marks the 28th meeting in a series that dates back to 1928.
• Follow the Action: The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription based) and will also be carried live on 1430 WNAV and 1500 WFED with Joe Miller on the call. Radio coverage begins at 11:45 am with the Navy Lacrosse Pregame Show. Live stats will also be available on NavySports.com(.)

Countdown to Faceoff
10  -  Dan Daly (Sr) is one of only 10 goalkeepers in program history to reach 400-career saves. He currently stands 8th on Navy's all-time career saves list with 450 saves, the most by a Navy player since Ryan Kerns 465 save from 2017-20.
9  -  Alec Gregorek (So / A) has scored multiple goals in all 9 contests, including hat tricks in each of the last 4 games.
8  -  Navy has won at least a share of the Patriot League regular-season title 8 times (2004-05-06-07-08-15-16-18) since 2004.
7 -   Four Navy players have scored 100 points during the Joe Amplo era, including Mac Haley (Sr / A) who scored his 100th point in Navy's win over VMI (2-17). He stands 19th on Navy's all-time scoring list with 127 points, just 7 points out of the top 15
6  -  Dating back to last spring, Navy has won 6-consecutive games when leading at the half, including 4 this season. Under Joe Amplo, the Mids are 36-4 when leading at the half.
5  -  Navy owns a 10-3 record against Colgate in games played in Annapolis, including wins in each of the last 5 (16-9 in 2016 / 12-10 in 2018 / 16-14 in 2020 / 11-10 in 2022 / 10-9 in 2024)
4  -  Navy is undefeated at home this season, posting a 4-0 record including a 1-0 mark in Patriot League action.
3  -  Mac Haley (Sr / A) needs just 2 more points to become just the 3rd Navy player since 2000 to reach the 40-point mark in a season multiple times in a career ... Ian Dingman achieved it all 4 years (40 in 2003, 62 in 2004, 44 in 2006, 42 in 2007) and Jon Birsner did it 3 times (40 in 2004, 42 in 2005, 54 in 2006)
2  -  During the Joe Amplo era, Navy has lost just 2 games when holding its opponent to 9 or fewer goals. The Mids are 32-2 when achieving that feat since 2020.
1  -  With a goal and an assist at Johns Hopkins on March 14, AJ Marsh (Jr / D) now ranks #1 in program history for points scored by a long pole. He has 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists. Matt Rees (2014-17) previously held the record with 19 points.

Scouting Colgate
• Eighth-year head coach Matt Karweck led Colgate to the Patriot League Tournament title a year ago, but this season the Raiders have struggled to navigate their way through a tough schedule. Three of Colgate's losses have come against nationally-ranked foes - Penn State 18-14, Virginia 19-14, Harvard 17-8. The Raiders dropped their first-3 Patriot League games by a combined 5 goals (Loyola 13-11, Holy Cross 11-10, Bucknell 14-12) before knocking off nationally-ranked Boston U. last week, 14-12.
• Colgate lost its top-3 scorers, including brothers Liam and Rory Connor who are currently members of the Georgetown lacrosse team and the top-2 scorers for the Hoyas. Liam paced Colgate last year with 90 points on 39 goals and 51 assists, while Rory finished the year with 82 points on 49 goals and 33 assists. Additionally, Jack Turner graduated after posting 67 points on 56 goals and 11 assists.
• Hunter Drouin (Sr / M), Casey Quinson (So / A) and Freddy Fowler (So / A) have combined to post 78 of Colgate's 135 points (57.8) this season, including 51 of the 90 goals. Drouin leads the way with 27 points on 17 goals and 10 assists, while Quinson owns a team-high 21 goals and 5 assists for 26 points. Fowler has 25 points on 13 goals and 12 assists.
• Defensively, the Raiders are ranked 68th out of 75 teams nationally and last among Patriot League schools in scoring defense (13.75). Colgate's opponents have scored 11 or more goals in 7 of the 8 games to date. The Raiders held Hobart to 6 goals in a 7-6 victory on Feb. 14.
• The Raiders have also been tasked with replacing All-Patriot League goalkeeper Matt LaCombe. Sophomore Andrew Lehrman has filled that role where he owns a 13.77 goals-against average and a 51.4 save percentage this season.
• The Raiders are averaging 9.75 caused turnovers per game with John Carrabine (11) and Patty Eldredge (10) leading the charge.
• Fischer Burke and Kyle Rummel have shared the faceoff duties with Fischer winning 46.3 percent (57-123) of the draws he's taken, while Rummel is winning 49.5 percent (49-99).

Navy-Colgate Series
• Navy leads the all-time series with Colgate 18-9, including a 10-3 advantage in games played in Annapolis.
• The Mids have won 5 in a row against the Raiders at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (16-9 in 2016 / 12-10 in 2018 / 16-14 in 2020 / 11-10 in 2022 / 10-9 in 2024). Four of those 5 wins have been by 2 or fewer goals.
• The two teams have met 25 times since the Midshipmen joined the Patriot League in 2004. During that span, Navy has produced a 17-8 record.
• Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 marked the first time since Navy joined the league the two teams did not meet.
• Navy and Colgate have twice faced one another in the Patriot League Tournament and have been met with split results.  In 2007, the Mids claimed a 15-9 win over the Raiders in the championship game, before dropping the program's first Patriot League Tournament contest at the 2008 semifinals against eventual champion Colgate.
• Eight of the last 17 contests between the two programs have been decided by one goal with Navy winning 6 of the 8 (L in 2009 / W in 2009 / W in 2010 / L in 2011 / W in 2012 / W in 2015 / W in 2022 / W in 2024).

Navy Picked Third in PL Preseason Poll
• Navy has been picked to finish 3rd in the 2026 Patriot League Preseason Men's Lacrosse Poll.
• Army, the 2025 Patriot League Regular-Season Champion, secured 7 of the 9 first-place votes and amassed 63 points to top the poll for a third-consecutive year.
• Boston U., who played in the Patriot League Championship Game a year ago, earned 56 points and the remaining 2 first-place votes to finish 2nd in the balloting. Just 3 points separated the 3rd (Navy, 40), 4th (Loyola, 39) and 5th-place teams (Lafayette, 37), while just a point separated Lehigh (33) and Colgate (32) for 6th and 7th, respectively. Closing out the poll in 8th and 9th were Bucknell (15) and Holy Cross (9), respectively.
• Navy's AJ Marsh (Jr / D) was named the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Zach Hayashi (Jr / FO) was named the Patriot League Preseason Faceoff Specialist of the Year. Joining Marsh and Hayashi on the preseason all-league team was Jack Ponzio (So / M).
