Mids Defeat Hoyas, Fall to Blue Hens in Men’s Tennis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team (14-10) started Friday with a 4-0 victory over Georgetown (1-8) and ended it with a 4-0 loss to Delaware (8-1).  Both matches were played at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.

Navy 4, Georgetown 0
The Mids won two of the three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead.  The No. 3 team of George Cutone and J.J. Etterbeek defeated Jacob Mann and Burke Pablo by the score of 6-3 in the first match to finish.  Aniketh Ayinala and Jake Young then won a 6-3 decision at No. 2 doubles over Josh Lamm-Bocharov and James O'Sullivan to clinch the point.  

Navy's No. 1 team of Herrick Legaspi and Charlie Spencer held a 5-1 lead over Arthur O'Sullivan and Cyrus Zia when play was halted.

Cutone lost only one game in defeating Jonah Hill at No. 6 singles to make the score 2-0.  Young followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Zia at the No. 5 flight and Etterbeek finished play when he registered a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mann at No. 4 singles.

Delaware 4, Navy 0
The doubles point was not determined until a tiebreaker was played in the third and final match left on the courts.  The Blue Hens won the first match to finish, a 6-2 win by Mason Robins and James Sclater over Kai Edwards and Zach Giertz at the No. 3 flight.  Navy's No. 2 tandem of Jason Kim and Tommy Kim posted a 6-3 victory over the tandem of Federico Garbero and Itamar Tapiro.  The tiebreaker in the No. 1 match between Navy's Lachlan Buckingham and Ethan Garcia and Delaware's Tobey Lock and Euan Mackenzie went the way of the Blue Hens by the score of 7-3.

Delaware then won straight-set matches at Nos. 6, 4 and 2 singles to win the match.

Navy will play matches both inside and outside of the Tose Family Tennis Center Saturday morning as it will face Norfolk State and Brown at 10:30 a.m.
