ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Taking a quick spring-break trip to the Tidewater region, the Navy baseball team (11-4) will look to extend its winning streak on Tuesday afternoon, squaring off against Norfolk State (2-11) at Marty L. Miller Field in Norfolk, Va.
 
Marking Navy's final tune-up before the start of Patriot League play this weekend, the Midshipmen and Spartans are slated for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
 
Jackson Clark Named PL Rookie of the Week
Navy right-hander Jackson Clark was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday … Clark had a dominant week out of the bullpen for Navy, recording three scoreless appearances while aiding a pair of Navy wins … The freshman finished the week with just one hit allowed while tallying five strikeouts over his 3.2 innings, picking up the winning decision twice and holding opponents to a .091 batting average … On the season, Clark has a 5.19 ERA over six appearances, racking up 13 strikeouts in 8.2 innings while limiting the opposition to a .179 batting average … He joined high school teammate Owen Phypers (Feb. 16) and Patrick Walsh (Feb. 23) as one of three Mids to claim the league's Rookie of the Week accolade this year so far.
 
A Week of Walk-Offs
Navy had an exciting 4-1 run last week, highlighted by three walk-off comeback victories and a series victory over Dartmouth … Down by four runs at the midpoint of the game, Navy clawed its way back for an 8-7 walk-off victory over Coppin State on Tuesday, as a three-run ninth inning by the Mids was capped off by Victor Izquierdo lifting a sacrifice fly to score Henry Mitchell … Dropping Friday's series opener with Dartmouth, Navy found itself trailing by seven runs with only three outs left in Saturday's opening game but rattled off an eight-run seventh inning to get an 8-7 win, capped by Ty DePerno's game-winning RBI single before carrying that same offense into the nightcap for an 11-3 victory and the doubleheader sweep … Notching its second walk-off win in as many days and its third walk-off victory of week, Navy rallied again Sunday to post the 4-3 win in 10 innings and clinch the series victory when Tyler Cripe slid home for the game-winning run.
 
Road Dogs Redux
The Mids have posted a .250 team batting average on the road to match a 4.22 ERA, compiling a 2-2 away record this season … Evan Brown holds a team-best .444 average along with three steals in three road games, improving his all-time road average to .311 … Among Mids to play all four road games, Mason Ceccarelli leads the team with a .333 average and .529 on-base clip, while John Loudon has hit .313 with six RBI in road games this year and Victor Izquierdo is batting .308 through four road games while scoring seven times.
 
Midweek Mania
Navy is 2-0 in midweek games this year, posting a 12-0 win over Delaware State on Feb. 17 and notching the 8-7 walk-off win against Coppin State last Tuesday … The Mids went 6-3 in midweek contests last season under head coach Chuck Ristano after going 5-4 in 2024 … Navy went 4-2 in midweek home games last year … Victor Izquierdo batted .379 in midweek contests last year, racking up 11 hits and 16 RBI in those nine games … Mason Ceccarelli posted a .333 average and .515 on-base percentage over seven midweek starts as a rookie … Ty DePerno hit .308 in midweeks last season while also tallying 12 walks in nine games for a .525 on-base clip … Jack Killelea batted .467 while making four midweek starts in 2025, scoring six times … Making three midweek appearances, Spencer Stephens tallied a 1.80 ERA across five innings while striking out seven.
 
Scouting Norfolk State
The Spartans enter the week 2-11 overall and 0-3 in NEC play after dropping a three-game series to LIU last weekend … Justin Journette leads Norfolk State with a .356 batting average, totaling 16 hits, 15 runs scored, 14 RBIs, five home runs and three doubles this season … Mason Mompoint follows with a .323 average with six RBIs, while Cameron Mazell (.318) and Thomas Ealey (.302) also hit above .300 this season … On the mound, Ethan Blakeney leads the Spartans with 17 strikeouts … Yasseel Samboy paces the bullpen with nine strikeouts and a 5.79 ERA.
 
Series History
Navy is 2-1 in the all-time series with Norfolk State … The two teams played a three-game series in Norfolk to open the 2013 season, as the Mids grabbed the season opener by a 4-3 score … Norfolk State took the second game, 7-6, before Navy responded with a 13-1 win in the rubber match to claim the series.
