Tyler Grenn Named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week

Navy Senior Threw 8.1 Shutout Innings to Lead Navy to 1-0 Win Over Lehigh on Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball senior Tyler Grenn was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday, with the right-hander coming off a lights-out performance against Lafayette.

Grenn was simply dominant in Navy's 1-0 win in 11 innings Saturday, tossing 8.1 shutout innings against Lafayette that helped the Mids eventually pull off a four-game sweep of the Leopards.

Despite not factoring into the decision, Grenn worked into the ninth inning and held Lafayette to just six hits and a walk while retiring seven via the strikeout before giving way to reliever Jackson Clark. The senior righty did not allow an extra-base hit over those 8.1 innings and finished with 95 pitches, retiring 13-straight Leopards at one point.

Grenn's 8.1 innings marked a season high and the second-longest outing of his career, trailing only his nine-inning complete game at Army last season on March 28, while his seven strikeouts were also a season high.

On the season, Grenn holds a 1.89 ERA over 14 appearances, registering 31 strikeouts to six walks in 38 innings. The righty now has a 0.45 ERA in six Patriot League outings this spring, striking out 18 batters in 20 innings to just two walks.

This marks Grenn's fifth-career Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honor and he becomes the fourth different Navy pitcher this season to claim the award.

Navy returns to action Tuesday when it hits the road for a 3:00 p.m. game at George Washington.
