Danny Auffant at 2026 NCAA Winston-Salem Regional

Mids Move into 12th, Auffant Among Top 20 After Day Two of NCAA Winston-Salem Men’s Golf Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. //  Led by Danny Auffant's (Jr / Bellevue, Wash.) 3-under par 68, the Navy men's golf team shot par (284) and moved into 12th place following the second round of the 2026 NCAA Winston-Salem Regional played Tuesday at the Bermuda Run Country Club. Auffant also leap-frogged his way into the top 20 individual standings, where he is currently tied for 18th with a 2-under par 140 (72-68).

The Mids, who were 11-over and sat 13th in the standings after the opening round, shaved 11 strokes off their second round score and are looking to make a final jump in the standings on Wednesday. Navy (295-284-579) trails 11th-place Little Rock (298-280=578) by just a stroke, while 10th-place Richmond (293-280=573) holds a 6-stroke advantage over the Mids.

Auffant, who was tied with teammates Hudson Mitchell (Fr / Pensacola, Fla.) and Chip Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) for 36th after the opening round, had a sensational round on Tuesday. The third-year player made a team-high 6 birdies on the day, including 5 on the front nine. His 3-under par 68 was the lowest round of his career in terms of score and relationship to par.

Deegan mirrored his score from the opening round with a 1-over par 72, sliding to 44th in the standings with a 2-over par 144 (72-72). 

Mitchell is tied for 57th following a 4-over par round on Tuesday and is 5-over for the tournament (72-75=147). Just a stroke behind is team captain Jack Tarzy (Sr / Medford, N.J.) who played a strong second round. After struggling on Monday with an 8-over par 79, Tarzy fought his way back and shot a 2-under par 69 in the second round. Tarzy turned in 5 birdies on the day and now stands 59th on the leader board (79-69=148).

Navy made the change at the fifth spot on Tuesday, inserting Ed Scott (So / Lemont, Ill.) into the lineup for Sebastian Alonzo (Fr / Azusa, Calif.), who posted a 13-over par 84 in the opening round. Scott finished the second round with a 10-over par 81.

Top-seeded and third-ranked Virginia extended its lead to 6 strokes on Tuesday after carding a 14-under par 70. The Cavaliers are now 27-under (271-270=541) for the tournament. Fiftheenth-ranked Pepperdine (273-274=547) and #10 Ole Miss (278-269=547) are tied for second, followed by #39 Mississippi State (278-272=550) in fourth and #28 USC (278-279=557) in fifth.

Virginia's Ben James (66-63=129), ranked third nationally, shot an incredible 8-under par 63 on Tuesday to take sole possession of first on the individual leader board. Pepperdine's Mahanth Chirravuri (66-66=132) and Ole Miss' Cameron Tankersley (67-65-132) are tied for second trailing James by 3 strokes.

The final round of the Winston-Salem Regional is set for Wednesday with Virginia, Pepperdine and Ole Miss teeing off at 7:30 am. Meanwhile, Navy will play alongside Richmond and Little Rock beginning at 8:55 am from hole 10.
