Women's Track & Field Concludes Season at NCAA First Round

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Navy women's track & field team concluded its season at the NCAA First Round, competing Thursday and Saturday at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Kentucky, to cap the year.

Sophie Compton wrapped up her collegiate career Thursday night, competing in the NCAA First Round for the first time. Compton clocked the fourth-fastest 1,500-meter time in program history at 4:20.85 to finish 36th.

"Sophie [Compton] has been a consistent performer and leader in her four years here at the Academy," director of track and field Jamie Cook said.

Zoie Tesi made her second appearance in the high jump at the NCAA First Round on Saturday afternoon. Tesi did not clear a height after three attempts at 1.71 meters (5-7 1/4).

Tesi closed out her day in the triple jump, where she recorded her best mark on her first attempt with a leap of 12.05 meters (39-6 1/2) and finished 46th.

"Zoie had some solid jumps today in the triple jump, but it wasn't enough to get through," Cook said. "Being able to qualify for multiple events in this meet is really impressive. She dominated the conference all year, and I can't wait to see how she's going to come back better next season."

"These women had a really good year," Cook added. "Both athletes [Sophie Compton and Zoie Tesi] broke school records this season. I'm really proud of them. The goal is to get more people here. We're going to keep working and get better for next year."
