Spencer and Irwin to Captain Swimming and Diving Teams

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Rising seniors Clarice Spencer and Ben Irwin have been selected to serve as the captains for the Navy swimming and diving teams during the 2026-27 season, women's head coach John Morrison and men's head coach Bill Roberts announced today.

Spencer was Navy's top swimmer in the 200 fly at this year's Patriot League Championship as she finished in sixth place.  She also placed third in the C final of the 100 fly and competed in the 200 IM at the league meet.  Spencer previously scored points in five of her six events at the 2024 and '25 ECAC Championship meets.  

She is an operations research major who posted a 4.00 grade-point average during the 2026 spring term and has recorded a 3.78 cumulative GPA at Navy.  Spencer has received academic honors from the USNA in each of her six completed semesters.

Irwin won the 100 fly and 200 back titles at this year's Patriot League Championship to raise his career total in individual events to seven victories. The three-time First-Team All-Patriot League selection competed in the 2025 and '26 NCAA Championship meets.  He holds the Navy record in both backstroke events (100 - 45.66 / 200 - 1:39.79).

Irwin also is an operations research major and earned a 4.00 GPA during the 2025 fall semester.  He has compiled a 3.77 cumulative GPA and received academic honors from the USNA in all six semesters.  He was named the 2026 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming and diving.
