The WBAL Radio/Navy Athletics "Navy Insider Podcast" has been honored as the winner of the Best Podcast-Audio Division in the 2026 Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards.
Produced and hosted by Scott Wykoff, WBAL Radio's award-winning reporter and studio host for the Navy Football Radio Network, the Navy Insider Podcast drops weekly from September through December during the Navy Football season.
The entry earned top recognition in the category that includes TV & radio broadcast station on-line podcasts across Maryland, DC and Delaware.
"This half hour was packed with content," said the lead judge. "You can feel Scott's enthusiasm for the topics. I liked the mix of play-by-play content and natural sound of the squash players. It kept the piece moving and I enjoyed the interviews with the student athletes and the squash coach."
The Navy Insider Podcast takes listeners behind the scenes of Navy Athletics including Scott's interviews and features with Navy Football players, coaches and staff. Each week the podcast also highlights athletes, coaches and staff from Navy's other 35 varsity sports.
The award was presented Saturday, May 30 at the annual Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards Banquet at the Princess Royale Oceanfront Resort in Ocean City, Maryland.
Twenty-seven news organizations in Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C., submitted 378 entries in the contest across more than 20 categories, which featured news and sports from 2025.
Award entries were judged by a national panel of 24 broadcast professionals for coverage in 2025.
It was one of five first-place awards for WBAL Radio, the flagship station of the Navy Football Radio Network, presented for excellence among radio and TV stations in Maryland, Washington, DC and Delaware.
