ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy lightweight rowing team under the direction of Shawn Bagnall is proud to announce that Sam Rembold will spearhead the program's leadership during the 2026-27 academic year as the team captain. A three-year letterwinner, Rembold has earned the respect and trust of his teammates for his efforts both on and off the water.

"The Naval Academy Lightweights are known for being absolutely cutthroat in all that they do," remarked Rembold. "Whether in the classroom, at the boathouse, or in the hall, the N150s strive to excel in every area possible. To be named captain of this group of high caliber individuals is an honor. I plan to serve them as best as I can, teeing them up to succeed in and out of the boathouse. This upcoming season isn't going to be easy, with an Eastern Sprints league that continues to push the ceiling of lightweight rowing, the N150s have their work set out for them. However, the N150s have never and will never back down from a challenge. We openly accept this challenge presented to us by our competitors and seek to push the bar of excellence even further this season. In a world full of complacency, N150s don't give in."

During his first three seasons with the Mids, Rembold has suited up in 23 contests, including seven this past season as a member of the first varsity eight crew and 10 others with the second varsity eight. Racing with the 2V8 at the 2026 IRA National Championship, Rembold and the Mids finished fifth in the nation. A high achiever in the classroom as well, the aerospace engineering major has earned honors from the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association as an IRCA Scholar-Athlete in each of the first two seasons he has been eligible in 2025 and 2026. Rembold currently ranks within the top-60 among the class of 2027 at the United States Naval Academy in terms of Overall Order of Merit and Military Order of Merit.
