ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team begins its 2026 fall slate with a busy weekend of playing in three tournaments.  The Mids will play host to the Joe Hunt Invite, compete at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and take part in the Commander-in-Chief's Challenge in Arlington.

Play at all three events runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  There will be no team scoring at any of the tournaments.

Joe Hunt Invite
Navy's first fall tournament of the year has been named after Joe Hunt since the 2015-16 academic year.  The event is named after the 1942 graduate of the USNA who won the intercollegiate national title in singles (precursor to NCAA) in 1941 and the 1943 USTA National Championship (U.S. Open).  Hunt lost his life in an aviation training accident in 1945 prior to the end of World War II.  He remains the lone player in the sport's history to have won U.S. boys (ages 15 and under), juniors (18 and under), collegiate and national / U.S. Open titles in singles.  Hunt was posthumously inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

One of the outdoor courts on The Yard was dedicated as Joe Hunt Court as part of the inaugural playing of the tournament.

Teams competing in the event, which will be played on both the USNA Tennis Courts (weather permitting) and the Tose Family Tennis Center, are Campbell, Colgate, Delaware, George Mason, Johns Hopkins, Mary Washington, Morgan State and St. Bonaventure.

Milwaukee Tennis Classic
The Milwaukee Tennis Classic is celebrating its 50th edition this fall, making it the longest running college tennis tournament in the country outside of the NCAA Tournament.  The men's draw and all finals will be contested at the Western Racquet Club.  

Charlie Spencer and George Cutone will travel to the event for Navy.  Included among the teams sending players to compete in the men's portion of the tournament, which features 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, are Texas Tech, TCU, Notre Dame, Pepperdine, Ole Miss and Marquette.

Commander-in-Chief's Challenge
The Army Navy Country Club will play host to the Commander-in-Chief's Challenge.

Navy will play Air Force Friday (5 p.m. doubles, 6 p.m. singles), Army Saturday (10:30 a.m. doubles, 11:30 a.m. singles) and Georgetown Sunday (5 p.m. doubles, 6 p.m. singles).  

Navy Roster Update
Navy returns seven letter winners and 11 players from last year's team that won the Patriot League Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.  This includes returning players who combined for seven of the 12 spots in the lineup during the league tournament.

Charlie Spencer played No. 1 doubles alongside recent graduate Herrick Legaspi a year ago and is the top returning player from the singles lineup as he was at the No. 3 position down the stretch.  

Also back is Tommy Kim, who formed half of the No. 2 doubles tandem in the postseason and played at the No. 4 spot in singles.

Navy's No. 3 doubles pairing of Lachlan Buckingham and Jake Young returns, as does No. 6 singles player Steve Nguyen.

Rounding out the list of returning letter winners are George Cutone and Jason Kim.

Those returning players have been joined by eight newcomers to the team.
