Masino, Bartlett Share NAAA Athlete of the Week Honors

John Masino (rugby) and Quinn Bartlett (water polo) were named NAAA Co-Athletes of the Week.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Juniors John Masino with men's rugby and Quinn Bartlett with water polo have been named NAAA Co-Athletes of the Week presented by USAA for their performances last weekend. Masino helped lead the rugby team to a 26-14 Star Match win over Army, while Bartlett helped the water polo team to a 3-1 record, including a come-from-behind victory over Air Force.

Masino anchored Navy's defense in Saturday's Army-Navy Star Match victory. The junior played all 80 minutes and recorded a team-high 27 tackles against the Black Knights. The rivalry win keeps the Midshipmen undefeated against Army, improving to 8-0 all-time in the series and 4-0 in Star Matches. With Masino leading the charge, the team's dominant defense has allowed just two tries all season. He has paced Navy in tackles in every game this season, previously tallying 14 against St. Bonaventure, 12 against Air Force, and nine against Mary Washington.

Bartlett finished the week with 14 points on a team-best 11 goals and three assists with a pair of steals and 13 ejections drawn. He scored at least one goal in each game with three multi-goals contests including a hat trick. The junior led Navy with a team-best six goals – all in the second half – to lead Navy to a come-from-behind win against its service academy rival Air Force (W, 14-13). Against Santa Clara, the junior chipped in a pair of goals, one again both in the second half, as the Midshipmen rallied from a three-goal deficit to post a three-goal victory over the Broncos (W, 13-10). Bartlett contributed four points on a pair of goals and two assists in Navy's thrilling overtime victory over #11 LMU (W, 19-18). In the final game of the weekend, he helped spur the Mids' comeback attempt with a second-half goal, while also adding an assist in a one-goal loss to #8 UC Irvine (L, 11-10).
