Match Information
•    The Navy volleyball team will play host to the 15th edition of the Kristen Dickmann Invitational this weekend at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis.
•    The Mids (0-3) will play Coppin State (1-2) Friday at 6 p.m., Penn (0-0) Saturday at 4 p.m. and Stony Brook (1-3) Sunday at 3 p.m.  
•    Additional matches includes Penn playing Stony Brook Friday at 3 p.m., Coppin State facing Penn Saturday at 11 a.m. and Stony Brook playing Coppin State Saturday at 7 p.m.
•    Links to live statistics from all six matches can be found at NavySports.com.
•    The web site also will have links to ESPN+ video streaks of the three Navy matches.

Kristen Dickmann Invitational Schedule
•    The Kristen Dickmann Invitational features round-robin play between the three teams.  Following is the complete schedule:

Kristen Dickmann
•     Navy's annual fall tournament was renamed in honor of Kristen Dickmann in 2010.
•    The event pays tribute to the former Navy volleyball player who unexpectedly passed away in her dorm room in Bancroft Hall in May 2008, three weeks after turning 19.
•    This year marks the 15th playing of the event.
*    Among the losses for the Mids in the event have been defeats to Maryland (2015), Texas Tech (2015), Alabama (2018), West Virginia (2021), Michigan (2021) and Michigan State (2022).
•    Additionally, Navy registered a 3-0 victory over Maryland on the final day of the 2023 tournament.

Attending the Matches
•    Only those vehicles driven by someone with a Department of War approved identification card will be allowed onto the USNA.
•    Fans without approved vehicle access to the USNA must park outside of The Yard.  The simplest way to do this is to take the free shuttle bus.  
•    The shuttle bus on Friday (2-9 p.m.) and Sunday (2-6 p.m.) will depart from and return to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401).  Enter the blue / west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue.  There is a $10 per vehicle parking fee.  The free fan shuttle bus will leave from and return to the Blue Angel jet.  
•    On Saturday (10 a.m.-10 p.m.), the shuttle bus will depart from and return to the Navy Health Clinic (695 Kinkaid Rd., Annapolis, MD, 21402).  There is no charge to park at the health clinic.
•    Whether a visitor rides the shuttle bus or walks through one of the USNA gates, everyone ages 18 and over must have a valid picture ID (i.e.: State issued driver's license with REAL ID, student I.D., or a U.S. government issued passport). Visitors ages 17 and younger who do not have a valid picture ID must be accompanied by an adult.
•    Foreign passports are not permitted for general access.

Last Week
•    The Mids started the 2026 season by competing at the Western Michigan Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich.
•    Navy's first match saw it fall in five sets to Indiana State (19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 15-12).  
•    The Mids held a 22-18 lead in the third set when Indiana State scored the next five points to take a 23-22 lead.  The teams traded the next two points, which took the Sycamores to set point.  Back came Navy with a kill before an attack error by the Mids and a kill by Indiana State gave it the frame.
•    Navy trailed 20-14 and 22-15 in the fourth set, but tied the set at 22-22.  The teams traded points, then a Navy block and a kill sent the match to a fifth set.
•    The Mids nearly had another great rally in set five as they trimmed a 12-7 deficit to 12-11 and then 13-12.  Indiana State scored back-to-back points to win the match.
•    Hailey Jacobus posted 21 kills and hit .286 in her collegiate debut to pace the Navy offense.
•    Tournament-host Western Michigan posted a 25-13, 25-14, 25-16 win over the Mids on the middle day of the event.
•    Farrah Eike had 9 kills and hit .308 in the loss.
•    The weekend closed with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 loss by the Mids to Green Bay.
•    Ellen Gundlach recorded 9 kills and Eike added 8 in the defeat.
•    Isa Boyd was named to the all-tournament team.  She dished out an average of 4.73 assists (52 total) and ranked second on the team to libero Amara Chambers with an average of 2.09 digs per set (23).

Coppin State Preview
•    Coppin State began the season with a four-set win over William & Mary followed by a five-set loss to Kent State and a four-set loss to weekend-host Virginia Tech.
•    The Eagles posted a 23-12 record last season and placed first in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season with a 13-1 record.  It was the program's third regular season title in a span of four years (2022, 2023, 2025).
•    The top-seeded Eagles went on to win their second MEAC Tournament in three years (2023) to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
•    Coppin State finished in first place in the 2026 eight-team MEAC Preseason Poll.
•    The Navy-Coppin State series dates back to the fall of 1987.  The Mids have won all 27 prior matches, including 24 during Navy's Division I era (since 1991).
•    The teams last met in 2016 when Navy won a four-set match to improve its record to 16-0 in matches played on The Yard.
•    Navy has compiled a 95-15 record against teams in the MEAC, with a 63-15 record as a Division I program.  The last time the Mids played a MEAC school was when they won a three-set match at Morgan State in 2021.  The team's most recent match at home against a MEAC school was a five-set win over UMES in 2017.

Penn Preview
•    The Quakers will be opening their 2026 season this weekend.
•    Penn ended the 2025 season with an overall record of 12-12 and in a tie for fifth place in the Ivy league with a 6-8 record.
•    The Quakers placed fifth in the 2026 Ivy League Preseason Poll.
•    Penn holds a 10-4 advantage in the series with Navy, which includes an 8-2 advantage during Navy's Division I era.
•    Navy won the last match played between the teams, a five-set contested at Penn in 2017.
•    The teams have played four prior matches in Annapolis (1979, 1980, 1995, 1996), with Penn winning three of those matches.
•    Saturday's match will be the first in the series to be played in the Wesley A. Brown Field House.
•    The Mids enter the match with an overall record of 17-24 and a Division I record of 7-18 against teams from the Ivy League.
•    The last time Navy played an Ivy League team was when it lost to Cornell in three sets during the 2024 Kristen Dickmann Invite.
•    Penn head coach Tyler Hagstrom served as the head coach at Bucknell for five seasons before heading to Philadelphia after the 2024 campaign.  His teams compiled an overall record of 59-48 and a Patriot League mark of 36-32.  However, his 2023 and 2024 teams combined for an overall record of 36-16 and a 24-8 record in league play.  The 2024 league coach of the year after the Bison tallied a 21-5 overall record and a 13-3 record in league matches posted a 4-5 record against Navy, but this includes wins in three of the last four matches in the series.

Stony Brook Preview
•    The Seawolves successfully opened their year with a five-set win over Robert Morris before losing in three sets to both North Carolina State and tournament-host UCF.
•    The day after the UCF match, Stony Brook fell in three sets to No. 17 Florida in Gainesville.  The Gators posted a 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 victory.
•    Stony Brook put together an overall record of 12-15 and a Coastal Athletic Association record of 7-9 during the 2025 season.  The Seawolves tied for sixth place in the 11-team CAA.
•    Stony Brook finished in sixth place in the 2026 CAA Preseason Poll.
•    The lone prior match played between the teams occurred in 2002 when Stony Brook won a four-set match during the Robert Morris Tournament in Moon Township, Pa.
•    Navy has posted a 42-43 record against teams currently in the CAA, which includes a 19-32 record during Navy's Division I era.
•    The Mids last played a current CAA team in 2021 when they lost a five-set match to Towson in Annapolis.

Next for Navy
•    Navy closes its brief three-week non-league slate with a trip to Norfolk, Va., for matches at Old Dominion (Sept. 11) and against UMES (Sept. 12).

Jacobus Sets Freshman Kills Mark
•    Freshman Hailey Jacobus registered 21 kills in Navy's season-opening five-set loss to Indiana State.
•    Those most by a Navy freshman in a season-opening match dating back to when box scores were first available starting with the 1994 season.

•    The Mids played eight five setters in 2025, which was one away from tying the school record for the most in a Division I season (since 1991).

•    Navy used 20 different starting lineups (including the libero) during the 2025 season.
•    The Mids started three different lineups during their 2026 opening weekend tournament.

2026 Navy Season Information
•    Navy returns two starters plus the libero, eight letter winners and 11 players from the 2025 team that compiled an overall record of 13-14 and finished in fifth place in the Patriot League regular season with an 8-8 record.  Navy won a four-set road Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal round match at Bucknell to advance to the semifinal round where it fell to top-seeded and eventual-champion American.
•    The Mids used 20 different starting lineups during the 2025 season, with players who totaled 73 starts back this season.
•    The list of returners includes eight players who started at least five matches, plus Amara Chambers who was the libero in 24 matches.
•    Back for the Mids are the team's top-two attackers from last season in Farrah Eike (2.99 kps) and Caroline Buffum (2.43 kps).  
•    Chambers paced Navy with 32 aces and 350 digs a year ago, with setter Isa Boyd back after she dished out a team-best 394 assists and rankling second to Chambers with 28 aces.
•    2026 team captain Grace Burgoyne ranked third on the team in 2025 with 56 blocks.  She leads all returning players in that statistic.
•    Eight freshmen and nine new players round out the roster.
•    Navy has advanced to at least the semifinal round of the tournament in six of the seven years under head coach Paco Labrador in which the full season was played.
•    The Mids placed fifth in the 2026 nine-team Patriot League Preseason Poll of head coaches.

Half Century
•    The 2026 season is the 50th varsity season for the Navy volleyball team and 51st season as a program.
•    The program competed on the junior varsity level in 1976 and then was elevated to varsity status starting with the 1977 season.
•    The Mids competed on the AIAW / NCAA Division II levels for 14 seasons from 1977 through 1990.  
•    Navy entered the NCAA Division I ranks in 1991, which was the same year it joined the Patriot League.
