Naval Academy Athletics

• Gabriel in 2017-18 (Fr.):  Posted a combined 13-3 record wrestling at 133 and 141 pounds his rookie season ... also captured dual victories over Delaware Valley’s Kordell Rush (fall, 5:39) and George Mason’s Jose Tapia (dec, 6-5) ... the win over Rush marked his first collegiate match and victory ... put together a 4-0 mark, including a 4-2 victory over Worcester Polytech’s Stephen Jendritz in the finals, to win the Ursinus Fall Brawl ... defeated Lehigh’s Jimmy Hoffman, 9-3, to place third at the Edinboro Open ... competed, but did not place, at the Navy Classic.

• High School: A 2016 graduate of Bedford High School in Bedford, Pa., Gabriel attended the Allegany College of  Maryland and Anne Arundel Community College during the 2016-17 academic year ... a two-sport standout who earned letters in soccer (3) and wrestling (4) ... a three-time All-State (Pa.) wrestling selection who was the 2015 Pennsylvania State Champion ... was the runner-up in 2014 and place third in 2016 ... member of the PIAA State Championship Bedford wrestling team in 2015 ... placed third in freestyle and second in Greco at Fargo in 2012 ... took sixth in freestyle at Fargo in 2014 ... served as the captain of the soccer team in 2015 ... led the soccer team to the district title in 2013 and ‘14 ... also considered Bucknell, Lehigh and NC State. 

• Personal: Son of Joseph and Susan Gabriel ... majoring in Computer Science ... named to the Commandant’s List following his first semester at the Academy.
