Tom McKavitt is in his 11th year at Navy, where he serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities & Maintenance.
Prior to his current position, McKavitt spent 23 years in the U.S. Navy in naval aviation as a bombardier/navigator in the A-6 Intruder aircraft. He completed five carrier-based deployments to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf - logging over 2,000 flight hours and over 550 carrier-arrested landings. Following his final tour of duty as the Base Operations Officer and Installation Manager at the U.S. Naval Academy, he retired from active duty with the rank of Commander (O-5).
McKavitt earned a master's degree in project management from Drexel University in 2013 and his master's degree in aeronautical engineering and engineer's degree in aeronautical & astronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1990. Prior to those degrees, he earned his bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1983.
McKavitt currently resides in Annapolis with his wife Margaret - a retired Navy Nurse Corps officer. They have three children - Patrick (USNA '10) is a Marine Corps Captain, Erin is a middle school math teacher at Flint Hill (Va.) School and Sean is a 2016 graduate of Virginia Tech and a Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenant.
