I am an Athletic & Scholarship Programs Trustee and fulfill my annual dues. What is the NAAA’s relationship with the A&SP Trustees and where is the best place for me to donate to support the Academy’s Physical Mission?

The A&SP Trustees partner with the NAAA to provide approximately $3 million annually in unrestricted support to The Fund for Athletic Excellence to meet supplemental needs of Navy Athletics. This includes financial support to all 33 varsity teams, 16 club sports, and the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, RI. We encourage all Trustees to support The Fund for Athletic Excellence through the USNA Foundation, as it serves as the lifeblood of the A&SP organization and provides resources that directly impact the entire Physical Mission.

I contribute through the Blue-N*-Gold to buy my Army-Navy Tickets and Admirals Row parking for football season. What is the difference between supporting Navy Athletics through the USNA Foundation compared to the Blue-N*- Gold organization at the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA)?

The Blue-N*-Gold is a 501 (c)(3) organization within the NAAA responsible for raising funds to support Navy Athletics through annual memberships for Army-Navy Tickets and Reserved Admirals Row Parking for home football games. Blue-N*-Gold memberships start at $50 and go up to $2,500, with each level offering increased ticket priority, in addition to a reserved parking space at the highest two levels of membership. Contributions made to the Blue-N*-Gold are made payable directly to the NAAA and do not receive USNA Foundation credit or recognition.

The NAAA Athletic Development team is set up in partnership with the USNA Foundation and the Athletic & Scholarship Programs Trustees to raise philanthropic support for Physical Mission priorities. In making a gift through the USNA Foundation to support Navy Athletics, donors will receive Foundation recognition, in addition to exclusive stewardship in alignment with where the gift is directed.

I support different capital projects and sport specific funds. How is that different from supporting The Fund for Athletic Excellence and the type of stewardship I receive as a donor?

Restricted gifts to support capital facility projects or sport specific initiatives are vital for upgrading facilities, developing student-athletes, and assisting coaches in recruiting. A restricted gift is earmarked by the donor to support a specific project or individual team, as opposed to an unrestricted gift, which supports all 33 varsity programs and 16 club sports.

A donor whom makes a restricted gift will receive individual stewardship, such as recognition opportunities on a locker, plaque, or inside the facility of the project they supported. Separately, a donor whom makes an unrestricted gift to The Fund for Athletic Excellence, which supports all 33 varsity programs and 16 club sports, is eligible to receive benefits associated with The Fund for Athletic Excellence stewardship program.
