Friends of Navy Golf hosted its 10th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the USNA Golf Course. Seventy-two golfers participated in this year's event, made up of former Navy golfers, supporters of the course, and friends of men's and women's golf programs. It was a day of friendly competition and great camaraderie. We thank all those who participated and send a special thank you to those who helped make this event possible.
About:
Friends of Navy Golf, founded by Admiral Hank Mauz '59 and Rear Admiral Bill Cobb '68, was started to help restore the Naval Academy Golf Course. The restoration was made possible by Friends of Navy Golf (FONG) and Naval Academy Golf Association (NAGA) groups working together to improve certain areas of the course.
The project had multiple phases that restored greens, bunkers, and fairways as well as the opening of the Gurnee Center and Council and Dorton Practice Facilities. Rob Skinner and Hank Plain, both California residents, became involved in the efforts and created the "California FONG group". This group helped launch a three-year initiative that generated support from friends including members of Caves Valley Golf Club.
FONG continues to provide support to the course and the Men's and Women's golf programs as they look ahead to the next phases of Navy Golf. If you're interested in learning more, please contact Admiral Cobb at williamwcobb@icloud.com
