Gretchen Benz, MEd, ATC, currently serves as the Athletic Trainer for the Naval Academy's swimming & diving and men's tennis programs. Previously she covered Navy's baseball and women's rowing teams.

Prior to Navy, Benz spent five years with the football, baseball, and men's soccer programs at the University of Maine. Within that time, she also served as an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

From 1997 to 2002, Benz worked with the football and women's basketball programs at the University of Richmond. During her final year at Richmond, she also served as an instructor in the Department of Wellness.

Benz earned her master's degree in sport management from the University of Georgia, where she served as the athletic trainer for the 1996 NCAA Division I runner-up women's basketball team. While in Georgia, she had the opportunity to volunteer at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, and was assigned to the Stone Mountain Velodrome and Archery Center.

A native of Detroit, Benz attained her a bachelor's degree in French, with minors in athletic training and biomedical sciences, from Western Michigan University in 1995. While an undergraduate student, she spent one semester at Université Laval, a French university in Québec City, Canada.
