• At Navy: Missed all of last year with a knee injury ... will be in the mix at free safety if he can regain his form ... started two games at free safety as a sophomore ... has earned two varsity letters.

• 2021: Missed the year with an injury.

• 2020: Saw action in 10 games, starting 2 ... finished the year with 17 tackles, including a tackle for a loss ... recovered a Tahj Washington fumble at the Navy 22 with under a minute to go in the opening half that was forced by teammate Jamal Glenn against Memphis ... it was his first-career fumble recovery ... also chipped in a solo tackle ... turned in a pair of tackles at SMU ... chipped in a solo stop against Houston ... earned his second start in as many games, turning in a career-high tying 5 tackles, including 4 solo stops, in the win at East Carolina ... made his first-collegiate start in the win over Temple where he turned in a career-high 5 tackles ... recorded his first-career tackles (3) and tackle for a loss in the Mids’ loss at Air Force.

• 2019: Appeared in 11 contests as a member of special teams ... made his collegiate debut in the Mids’ AAC opener against East Carolina.

• High School / Personal:  A 2019 graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School, Atwaters was a two-sport athlete who earned letters in football (3) and track & field (3) ... a member of the 2018 state championship winning Cardinal Gibbons football team, he garnered All-County honors as a defensive back ... attended Columbus High School in Georgia prior to Cardinal Gibbons ... father is in the Army ... son of Derek Atwaters Sr. and Stephanie Bass ... majoring in English.
