Biography
As a Junior: Gavin competed in 13 regattas. His podium finishes were 3rd at the Graham Hall Team Race, 1st at the Nevins Trophy and 1st at the GW Team Race. He also competed at Singlehanded Nationals and placed 9th.
As a Sophomore: Gavin competed in 5 regattas. His top performances were 4th at Navy Quad Team Race, 2nd at Navy Quad Fleet Race and 8th at Singlehanded Nationals. He finished 15th at the Crab Claw Laser Regatta.
As a Freshman: Gavin competed in 5 regattas as a doublehanded and singlehanded skipper. He finished 2nd at the Carl Van Duyne MAISA Men’s Singles, 2nd at Laser South and 10th at LaserPerformance Men’s Singlehanded Nationals.
Prior to Navy: From Rancho Palos Verdes, California and graduated from Palos Verdes High School in 2019. Gavin grew up sailing in Marina Del Ray along with his sister, Jessica McJones, who is also on the intercollegiate sailing team at USNA. Most of Gavin's experience is in the Laser class; also competed in C420s, CFJs, and match racing.
