Jaren Marino starts his third season in Annapolis in the fall of 2025. Marino also serves as the team’s director of player personnel and development.
At Navy (2023-24 to Present)
Marino’s first season at Navy coincided with having one of the youngest teams in the country. The roster had an average age that ranked as the 15th youngest team in the NCAA. The Mids would post an 8-10 record against league opposition and a 13-18 record overall.
Navy compiled a 10-8 record in league play during the 2024-25 season, which placed it in a tie for third place. The Mids would advance to the championship game of the league tournament to end the year with a 15-19 overall record.
At Radford (2017-18 to 2022-23)
Marino spent six years at Radford, first as the team’s video coordinator (one season) and then as the director of operations. The Highlanders won at least 20 games in four of his six seasons and posted records of 113-80 overall and 78-34 in Big South regular season games during his tenure.
His first year (2017-18) saw Radford win the Big South Tournament title and defeat Long Island in the First Four to record the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory. Radford would earn a share of conference regular season titles in both 2018-19 and 2019-20, place second in 2020-21 and share second place in 2022-23. The Highlanders also won a pair of games in the 2023 College Basketball Invitational.
Off the court, Marino attained a Master of Science Degree in Education from Radford in 2022.
Collegiate Playing Career (2011-12 to 2014-15)
The native of Dunbar, W.Va., graduated from South Charleston High School and attended West Virginia Tech. Originally a walk-on for the Golden Bears, he earned a scholarship and a starting role over his last three years, twice earned all-conference honors, served as the team captain as both a junior and senior and totaled over 1,000 career points.
At West Virginia Tech (2015-16)
After finishing his collegiate eligibility in 2015, he returned to WVU Tech as a student assistant coach while he finished his undergraduate degree. In 2016, he graduated from the NAIA school with a Regents Bachelor of Arts Degree.
On the basketball court that year, the Golden Bears posted a conference record of 11-7 that was part of an overall mark of 15-17.
At Louisburg (2016-17)
Marino then went to Louisburg College as an assistant coach for the 2016-17 campaign. The Hurricanes compiled a 30-5 overall record and reached the championship game of the NJCAA (DII) Tournament.
Personal
He and his wife, Nicole Newman, who played basketball at James Madison and served an assistant coach for the Radford women’s team, are the parents of daughters Capri and Sadie.
