Mike Burke is in his 15th season as a member of the Navy men’s golf coaching staff and his 11th serving as Associate Head Coach. Burke was promoted prior to the beginning of the spring competition season in 2013.
A native of Cape May Court House, N.J., Burke arrived in Annapolis in the spring of 2007 as a member of the Academy’s Golf Professional Staff. A PGA Class “A” Professional since 2007, he joined the Mids’ coaching staff in the spring of 2008 where he has served as a volunteer assistant for Pat Owen.
Since his arrival, Navy has won the Patriot League Championship (2008, ‘12, ‘18) three times and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals, while the Mids have also placed second four times (2009, ‘11, ‘13, ‘21) during that time frame. Nineteen different Midshipmen have garnered All-Patriot League honors, including Erich Schoen, who earned Patriot League Player-of-the-Year accolades after taking the individual tournament crown in Burke’s first season (2008); Chris House, who took the title in 2013 and earned an automatic berth to play in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional; and Charlie Musto (‘21), who is just the second golfer overall and first from Navy to earn Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season when he claimed the 2018 crown by six strokes. Additionally, Navy has produced the league’s rookie of the year four times under his tutelage (2008 Ben Hayes, 2009 Peter Reilly, 2011 David Hall, 2018 Charlie Musto).
Prior to his arrival at the Academy, Burke served internships at the Brentwood (Calif.) Country Club, the Seaview Marriott (N.J.), the Air Force Academy (Colo.) and Bandon Dunes (Ore.). A proven master of the links, Burke passed the PGA Playing Ability Test on his first attempt.
Burke is a 2006 graduate of Clemson University, earning his bachelors degree in Professional Golf Management. Burke and his wife, Kristin, are the parents of a daughter, Graysen.
