Loren Shipley was appointed as an Athletic Trainer at the United States Naval Academy in August 1993. While working at Navy, Shipley has had the opportunity to provide care for almost every varsity program at the Academy. He currently serves as the Athletic Trainer for the sprint football and men's lacrosse programs. He is also the facility supervisor for the Wesley A. Brown Athletic Training Facility.
Shipley, a native of Glasgow, Kentucky, graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1984. He holds a master's degree in Physical Education (sports management) from Northern Illinois University and a master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies, with distinction, from the United States Naval War College. Shipley also graduated, with distinction, from the College of Naval Command and Staff.
Shipley began his athletic training career in 1985 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Northern Illinois University where he provided care for the men's soccer and wrestling programs. In 1989 he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy to become the first certified Athletic Trainer at the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, Rhode Island. While at NAPS, Shipley developed the entire program from scratch including developing and equipping two athletic training rooms, designing and implementing protocols and policies and procedures for coverage of all 13 athletic programs and for the entire battalion of Midshipman Candidates.
Shipley recently retired from the United States Navy's Reserve Component. He retired with the rank of Commander. His 22-year career was highlighted by two recalls to active duty in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, as well as numerous staff and joint assignments and reserve unit leadership positions.
Shipley is married to the former Michele Everett and they reside in Annapolis, Maryland and have two daughters Annie and Emily.
