Fluhr was elevated to the position of Tom and Candy Knudson Navy Heavyweight Rowing Head Coach in June of 2025 after completing the 2024-25 season as the Mids' associate head coach.

Fluhr returned to the Navy heavyweight rowing program as the associate head coach in July of 2024 following two seasons at Yale. He worked in conjunction with Steve Gladstone, whom he served as an assistant under at Yale during the 2023 and 2024 campaigns.

Instructing Yale's lower boats, Fluhr thrived as the program had strong postseason performances in 2023 with Eastern Sprint boat titles for its V8 and 3V8 on its way to the Bulldogs' seventh straight Rowe Cup championship before finishing the 2023 season in third place at the IRA National Championships. At the nation-wide regatta, the Bulldog's top-three boats all raced in grand finals and placed top-five overall. In 2024, Yale's 4V8 paced the program with a grand final victory at the Eastern Sprints, while its 5V8 came in second and 3V8 took third place. Overall, the Bulldogs came in third in the Rowe Cup standings. The season concluded at the IRAs as Yale raced to a sixth-place finish in the team point standings.

Prior to his stint at Yale, Fluhr was on staff with the Navy heavyweights for three years from Sept. 2019 through the spring 2022 season.

During Fluhr's final season on staff as an assistant coach in 2022, the Mids came away with eight regular season victories, including a 4-0 showing at the Occoquan Invitational and a Stevenson Cup win over Columbia. Navy's lower boats performed well at the Eastern Sprints, with the 6V8 garnering gold and the 5V8 coming in fourth. As a program, Navy played eighth overall at the Sprints. At the year-end IRA National Championship, Fluhr and the Mids' 3V8 came in ninth place, while the entire squad placed 12th in the Ten Eyck standings.

2021 served as Fluhr's first spring season of competition with the Mids after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 season. The program was ranked inside the top-12 of the national coaches' poll for the entire regular season. In the postseason, the Mids turned in top-10 results by each of its first, second and third varsity eights, as well as their varsity four. As a team, Navy placed sixth overall in the Ten Eyck point standings. Fluhr worked throughout the year with Navy's lower boats and helped develop the squad's depth.

A skilled rower throughout much of his life, Fluhr came to the Naval Academy in the fall of 2008 after competing with the 2007 U.S. Junior National Team in the Junior World Championships in Beijing, China. His career at Navy saw him suite up with the Mids for all four seasons starting with action in the plebe eight crew in 2009 before moving up and becoming a mainstay in the first varsity boat at the stroke position the next three years. Fluhr's efforts in the top varsity boat were recognized as he was a two-time recipient of the Rusty Callow Award, the highest honor for a Navy heavyweight competitor. Not just an award-winning athlete, he provided the program with strong leadership as he served the program as team captain during his senior season in 2012. During his final season wearing the blue and gold for Navy, Fluhr and the Mids raced to a fifth-place finish at the Eastern Sprints and a tenth-place result at the IRA National Championship Regatta. That finish at the Eastern Sprints was the best placement by Navy first varsity boat since the 2004 event.

After graduating the Naval Academy in May of 2012, he was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer and served in the United States Navy for over six years. As an active duty member of the Navy, Fluhr was a division officer with the USS Ingraham serving as both the gunnery officer and main propulsion officer. Following his time with the USS Ingraham, he moved on to Coastal Riverine Squadron TWO as a platoon commander and seaward security officer. He rounded out his service with an assignment at the Naval Academy. Starting in 2017 and going through the 2019 academic year, he was an operations officer at the sailing center and instructor in the SEANAV department. Away from the sailing center, Fluhr was able to serve as the officer rep for the heavyweight crew team and volunteer at practices when time allowed.

Fluhr’s coaching experience also includes a stint as head coach at the US Rowing U19 High Performance Camp in 2021.
