Bednarsky joined the Navy men's soccer program in June 2021 and enters his first season with the Midshipmen heading into the 2021 season.
Bednarsky comes to Navy after a five-year stint as the assistant coach at Hobart College. During his time with the Statesmen, Bednarsky helped the program to an overall record of 43-24-12. He also assisted Hobart to Liberty League Tournament Championships in 2017 and 2019. With Hobart, Bednarsky also helped pilot the team to a pair of NCAA Division III Championship appearances where the Statesmen advanced to the second round of the tournament in 2017.
Throughout his five seasons at Hobart, Bednarsky was a part of the 2017 Liberty Coaching Staff of the Year that went unbeaten in league matches with a 6-0-3 mark en route to an 11-5-4 overall record. Bednarsky also help produce six First Team All-Liberty League honorees, four second-teamers and eight honorable mentions along with the 2018 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, Nick Kriak. Within the region, Bednarksy coached three First and Second Team All-Region award winners along with four third-team honorees.
Bednarsky was also the recruiting coordinator for Hobart’s men’s soccer program and conducted the program’s ID clinics and camps. Bednarsky was also an event manager for the Hobart athletics department and assisted Hobart’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, along with being a member of the Athletic Day of Donors Committee.
In his first season at Navy, Bednarsky assisted the Midshipmen to a 12-6-1 record while going 5-4-0 in the Patriot League, earning the Mids their second Patriot League Tournament berth in the last three seasons. Additionally, Navy earned its first victory in the league tournament since the 2013 season, a 1-0 win over Lehigh, earning a berth to the tournament semifinals.
Navy opened the season with a six-unbeaten streak that included winning five-straight games, before ultimately starting another winning streak that resulted in coming away with four-straight wins. The Mids proved to be one of the top offensive teams in the Patriot League, scoring 33 goals, their most since scoring 37 in 2013.
Additionally, Navy produced one of the top-defensive efforts in the country, tallying 10 shutouts along with allowing just 20 goals for an average of just 1.05 per game.
Matt Nocita and Jacob Williams were named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively, with the assistance of Bednarsky. Nocita became the first Patriot League men’s soccer player to earn the award three times in their career while Williams garnered Offensive Player of the Year honors for the first time in his career.
Navy produced eight All-Patriot League selections, tied for the most in program history, along with being the third-straight season the Midshipmen have tallied seven or more All-League honorees. To round out the 2021 season accolades, Nocita was selected with the seventh overall pick of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls, making the standout defender the highest-drafted player in program history along with becoming the highest-selected Patriot League men's soccer player.
Bednarsky played four seasons of college soccer at St. Lawrence where he was selected as a First Team All-American as a senior in 2013 and he was also named the Liberty League MVP and ECAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013. Bednarsky was a three-time First Team All-East Region selection and a three-time First Team All-Liberty Leaguer. He is the only player in school history to start and play every match of their career. He finished his collegiate career with an overall record of 66-10-9 and made the NCAA Tournament in each of four seasons while winning two Liberty League regular-season crowns and two tournament titles.
Bednarsky graduated from St. Lawrence in 2014 with his bachelor's degree on psychology.
