Brent Boone

Brent Boone enters his fourth season as an assistant coach on the Navy men’s soccer staff in 2025.

A rebuilding 2024 campaign featured Boone helping the Mids earn a trio of all-league selections while also seeing team captain Charlie Kriel earn CSC Academic All-America Third Team distinction. Additionally, Boone was crucial in mentoring the Mids into the fourth-least penalized team in the nation at 8.38 fouls per game.

The 2023 campaign saw Boone assist in the Mids posting a 3-2-4 league mark, clinching a spot in the Patriot League Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons. With Boone’s coaching input, the team also continued to show a strong defensive effort by tallying the 20th-best shutout percentage in the country at 0.421.

Individually, Boone aided in the development of four All-Patriot League honorees in 2023, highlighted by David Jackson taking home the league’s Midfielder-of-the-Year award for the second-straight season and being named the program’s first All-American since 2014 with his selection to the College Soccer News All-America Third Team.

In Boone’s first season with the program, a storybook 2022 season was capped by Navy claiming its first Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament berth since 2013, as the Mids posted a 7-5-9 overall record and a 3-1-5 mark. Earning their second-consecutive trip to the league tournament, the Mids tallied three straight postseason shutouts to advance to and win the Patriot League Championship game. Navy then traveled to regional foe Georgetown in the NCAA First Round, where the Mids were able to keep even with the Hoyas until the second half.

Key to the 2022 team’s success was the defensive effort of the Mids, as the .793 team save percentage ranked second in the league and 17th nationally while a 0.895 team goals against average finished 29th in the NCAA. Navy also played a disciplined game, tallying the fourth-fewest yellow cards in the nation (19) and averaging 9.19 fouls per game to rank ninth-best in the country.

Individually, David Jackson became the first Navy player to win Patriot League Midfielder of the Year and joined JD Wagner on the All-Patriot League First Team, highlighting the Mids’ four all-league selections. Jackson and Wagner both earned All-Atlantic Region and All-ECAC honors as well, while Patriot League Tournament MVP Zach Wagner led a contingent of four Navy players named to the league’s all-tournament team.

Boone joined Navy with a wealth of coaching experience, which includes spending the previous 13 seasons as an assistant coach for the Broadneck High School varsity boys’ soccer team. Additionally, the Annapolis native served as the head coach of the St. Mary’s High School boys’ soccer team from 1991-94.

Along with his head coaching experience at the high school level, Boone has served as a head coach at the youth level for the Annapolis Soccer Club, Soccer Association of Columbia and Severna Park Soccer for 15 years, while also coaching the U17 Olympic Development Central East Girls Soccer Program in 1993 and then again from 2007-09.

Backed by his years of experience in coaching and training, Boone founded Pelota Training in 2009 where he serves as the co-owner and technical director. Pelota Training is an innovative soccer company geared toward improving the technical abilities of an individual, serving players of all ages and skill levels.

Boone owns several licenses and certifications from the United Soccer Coaches organization, including diplomas in club administration and advanced technical training.
