Brooks Wilson enters his sixth season on the Navy men’s soccer staff under head coach Tim O’Donohue in 2024, primarily working with the program’s goalkeepers. After serving as a volunteer assistant coach for each of his first two seasons with the program, Wilson was promoted to a full-time assistant coach prior to the start of the 2022 season.
Over his first five seasons in Annapolis, Wilson has assisted the Midshipmen in three-straight appearances in the Patriot League Tournament from 2021-23, winning the 2022 Patriot League Championship and producing three all-league goalkeepers.
Seeing the Mids capture three All-Patriot League selections in 2024, Wilson guided Pierce Holbrook second-team all-league honors and signing a professional contract with the Philadelphia Union II, with the goalkeeper debuting for the MLS Next Pro team in June 2025.
The 2024 season was also a good one statistically for Holbrook under Wilson, as the three-year starter led all Patriot League goalkeepers and ranked 15th nationally with 4.69 saves per game, while Holbrook’s 75 total saves also paced the league and placed 21st in Division I.
The 2023 campaign saw Wilson assist the Mids in posting a 3-2-4 league mark, clinching a spot in the Patriot League Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons. With Wilson’s guidance, the team also continued to show a strong defensive effort by tallying the 20th-best shutout percentage in the country at 0.421.
Individually, Wilson played a hand in the development of four All-Patriot League honorees in 2023, highlighted by David Jackson taking home the league’s Midfielder-of-the-Year award for the second-straight season and being named the program’s first All-American since 2014 with his selection to the College Soccer News All-America Third Team. Wilson also mentored goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook to a masterful season that saw Holbrook lead the league with 64 total saves and rank second in the Patriot League at 3.37 saves per game, with Holbrook’s seven shutouts also sitting 19th nationally.
With Wilson helping guide the Mids, a storybook 2022 season was capped by Navy claiming its first Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament berth since 2013, as the Mids posted a 7-5-9 overall record and a 3-1-5 mark to earn their second-consecutive trip to the league tournament. Tallying three straight postseason shutouts to advance to and win the Patriot League Championship game, Navy then traveled to regional foe Georgetown in the NCAA First Round, where the Mids were able to keep even with the Hoyas until the second half.
Key to the 2022 team’s success was the defensive effort of the Mids, as the .793 team save percentage ranked second in the league and 17th nationally while a 0.895 team goals against average finished 29th in the NCAA. Navy also played a disciplined game, tallying the fourth-fewest yellow cards in the nation (19) and averaging 9.19 fouls per game to rank ninth-best in the country.
Individually, David Jackson became the first Navy player to win Patriot League Midfielder of the Year, highlighting the Mids’ four all-league selections. Jackson and JD Wagner both earned All-Atlantic Region and All-ECAC honors as well, while Patriot League Tournament MVP Zach Wagner led a contingent of four Navy players named to the league’s all-tournament team, including goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook.
In addition, Wilson mentored Holbrook, a Patriot League All-Tournament selection, to a league-leading eight shutouts and 69 total saves, including 10 saves across 290 scoreless minutes during the league tournament. Holbrook also posted the second-best save percentage in the league, as his .802 mark ranked 17th in the nation, and the second-most saves per game in the league at 3.63.
During the 2021 season, Wilson helped guide the Midshipmen to a 12-6-1 record while going 5-4-0 in the Patriot League, earning the Mids their second Patriot League Tournament berth in the last three seasons. Additionally, Navy earned its first victory in the league tournament since the 2013 season, a 1-0 win over Lehigh, earning a berth to the tournament semifinals.
Navy opened the season with a six-game unbeaten streak that included winning five-straight contests, before ultimately starting another winning streak that resulted in coming away with four-straight victories.
The Mids proved to be one of the top offensive teams in the Patriot League, scoring 33 goals, while Navy also produced one of the top-defensive efforts in the country, tallying 10 shutouts along with allowing just 20 goals for an average of just 1.05 per game.
With the influence of Wilson amongst the staff producing a program-record eight all-league selections, Matt Nocita and Jacob Williams were named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively, as Nocita became the first Patriot League men’s soccer player to earn the award three times in their career. To round out the 2021 season accolades, Nocita was selected seventh overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls, making the senior standout the highest-drafted player in program history along with being the highest-drafted men’s soccer player in Patriot League history.
For the 2020-21 campaign, Wilson helped the Mids to a record of 4-2-1 overall where Navy picked up four-straight wins to open the season. The Mids also finished tied for second in the Patriot League South Division while compiling a record of 3-1-1 in the Patriot League.
In 2020-21, Navy had seven players be selected to the All-Patriot League Teams, as Matt Nocita was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season and David Jackson earned Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. Along with the seven all-leaguers, Wilson helped coach four United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Atlantic selections.
Prior to joining Tim O’Donohue’s staff, the Beaufort, S.C., native was the top assistant and goalkeeping coach at Dreher High School in Columbia, S.C., from 2019-20. Wilson also served as the goalkeeper coach for South Carolina United FC from 2018-20.
A 2020 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Wilson holds a C coaching license from the U.S. Soccer Federation.
