Biography

2018-19 (Sr.) — Enters his senior year tied for 17th on Navy’s all-time wins list (62-26, 70.5) ... paired up with Michael Kacergis to win the 2018 U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championship in a thrilling five-game match against Navy teammates Jamie Kjorlien and Jack Lentz ... closes out his doubles career having won three men’s titles (2015, 2017, 2018) ... he and his sister, Maria Elena, have won eight combined titles and are the winningest siblings in squash doubles history.

2017-18 (Jr.) — Posting a 22-7 record, he, along with Jack Lentz, led Navy in the wins column ... 17 of his 29 matches were played at the #4 position (16-3), while the other 7 were at the #5 spot ... scored one of his biggest wins of the season against Penn’s Marwan Mahmoud, whom he defeated in four games ... earned a five-game victory over George Washington’s Inaki Coral ... knocked off Trinity’s Aryaman Adik in four games on the road ... put together a 2-1 mark at the CSA Team Championship, earning wins over Yale’s Arjun Kochhar in three games and Cornell’s Illia Presman in three games ... came up just short in a five-game match against Drexel’s Dylan Kachur ... turned in a 1-2 record at the CSA Individual Championship ... paired up with Jack Herold to win the 2017 U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championship in a thrilling five-game match against Navy teammates Jamie Kjorlien and Jack Lentz.

2016-17 (So.) — Came up just short of putting together back-to-back seasons with 20 wins, as he closed out his sophomore year with a 19-9 record where he played primarily the #2 spot on the ladder ... put together a 1-2 record at the CSA Team Championship to help lead the Mids to a 13th-place finish ... dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Bates’s Mahmoud Youtstry before bouncing back to score a 3-1 win over Western Ontario’s David Mill at the Championship ... one of his biggest wins of the season was marked by a 3-0 victory against eighth-ranked Dartmouth’s Nick Harrington ... also represented Navy at the CSA Individual Championship where he put together a 3-1 record and won the consolation finals of the Molloy East bracket ... dropped a 3-1 decision to Penn’s James Watson in the opener before defeating MIT’s Vedaant Kukadia (3-0) and Middlebury’s Jack Kagan (3-1) to set up a finals bout against Drexel’s Luke Willemse ... Ubina battled back to win the last two games of the match, 17-15 and 13-11, to win the five-game match.

2015-16 (Fr.) — Put together a 21-10 record en route to a #66 national ranking ... split his time between the #1 and 2 positions ... opened his career by winning his first 13 matches, including a 3-0 sweep against Northwestern’s Peter Haun in his collegiate debut ... earned Navy’s lone’ victory at #8 Princeton, posting a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Cody Cortes ... scored a 3-0 sweep against 11th-ranked Dartmouth’s Alvin Heumann ... his 3-0 win over William’s John Fitzgerald helped lead the Mids to a 5-4 victory over the Ephs ... turned in a 2-1 mark at the CSA Team Championship, earning a 3-1 win over George Washington’s Oisin Logan and a 3-2 victory against Middlebury’s Wyatt French ... also played in the CSA Individual Championship where he went 0-2 ... paired up with senior team captain Bill Kacergis to win the 2015 U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championship ... the pair also won the 2015 Maryland State Opens Doubles Championship ... became only the fourth freshman in the history of the playing of the Naval Academy’s Barb Tournament to win the coveted trophy, defeating Jack Herold in three games ... he joins three-time Barb winner Spencer Wall (1983-84-85, the only four-time winner of the trophy, Tucker George (2004-05-06-07) and three-time winner Andrew McGuinness (2011-13-14) as the only rookies to win the trophy.

High School — Attended different high schools (Greenwich Country Day School as a freshman, Westhill High School as a sophomore and junior) before graduating from Brunswick School in Greenwich, Conn. ... a member of the Bruswick School squash team that won the National and New England Championships in 2015 ... ranked No. 6 in the country at the U-19 level in 2015 ... played lacrosse at Westhill High School.

Personal — Son of Senen and Elaine Ubina ... sister, Maria Elena Ubina, is 2017 graduate of Princeton where she was a member of the Tigers’ squash team ... she was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2014 and is a three-time First-Team All-American ... majoring in Quantitative Economics ... named to the Commandant’s List in each of the last two semesters.
