Naval Academy Athletics

Van Duyne grew up sailing at Riverside Yacht Club racing Optis, Lasers, and 420s on the Long Island Sound. He joined his yacht club’s offshore program at age 14 and gained experience on a J105, Summit 35, and J92 where he fell in love with offshore sailing. In the Spring of his senior year of high school, Ben’s sailing team finished the year ranked 16th nationally in team racing. He won the JVOST fall series as a plebe skipper and represented Navy at the Keelboat Invitational. While on VOST, Ben has been the helmsman of the Farr40 Ranger and competed in the Annapolis to Newport Race, NYYC Annual Regatta, as well as Block Island Race week. He was helmsman on board NA-25 Tenatious during his youngster fall which competed in Larchmont’s annual collegiate regatta. During his 3/C spring and 2/C summer Ben was at the helm of Wahoo, a custom Kerr50, which placed 3rd in class in the Newport to Bermuda race. Following his 2/C year, Ben transitioned to a tactician role back on board Farr40 Ranger and lead his boat to a ORC1A victory in the Annapolis to Newport Race as well as 1st place in PHRF1 during Block Island Race Week.
