Katy Zimmerman

Katy Zimmerman joined the Navy offshore sailing team as an assistant coach in August 2024.

Zimmerman comes to Navy with several years of coaching and instruction experience including Learn-to-Sail, middle school and high school racing, while also directing youth sailing programs.

In 2022, she sailed the Newport Bermuda Race as a trim coach with an all women's youth team based out of Oakcliff. Most recently, she spent over five and a half years working with Quantum Sails, both in Traverse City, Mich., and in Annapolis, Md., as a marketing specialist. 

Growing up sailing in Michigan, Zimmerman has competed in a handful of Mackinac Races, and several other short distance races on the Great Lakes. Since moving to Annapolis in 2022, she has done several Chesapeake Bay and Ocean races. Locally, she is involved in the Annapolis J/105 fleet, frequently racing aboard Firebrand and for distance races, frequently sails with the Salona 380 Cookie Monster. Internationally, she is heavily involved in the Melges 24 fleet racing with team Bad Idea.

She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 2018 and sailed for the Badgers for four years, spending her senior year as team captain.
