Thomas and Jane Gardner ... born April 6, 1987, in Charleston, S.C. ... father, Thomas, is a retired United States Navy captain ... father was a member of the Navy football team from 1972-75 and graduated from the Academy in 1976 ... uncle, Craig Scott, was a 1976 Naval Academy graduate and cousin, Charlie Scott, graduated last year from Navy ... a comparative politics major ... spent past fall semester overseas at la Escuela Naval Militar (The Spanish Naval Academy), in the town of Marín in Northern Spain ... while there, she taught several classmates how to play lacrosse in an effort to remain in shape for the spring ... Gardner on the experience: 'I brought some sticks and balls over and have been teaching them how to play. Nobody there had even heard of lacrosse so it was a challenge for them to learn the game.
