Joey Carnes serves as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning coach for NAAA.
Carnes arrives at Navy from North Carolina State, where he previously was an assistant strength & conditioning coach working with the football program.
Prior to joining NC State staff, Carnes spent two seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Florida State Seminole football program working directly with the running backs, tight end, and linebacker position groups.
Carnes spent the 2017 season as an assistant football strength and conditioning coach at Oregon following three seasons in the same position at South Florida. In addition to assisting with football, his duties at South Florida included overseeing all strength and conditioning aspects of the Bulls’ baseball program.
Carnes began his career in 2007 as a volunteer assistant at Western Kentucky. He was promoted to full-time assistant director in 2008 and spent the next seven seasons working with the Hilltoppers. During that time, Carnes oversaw the strength and conditioning program for women’s basketball, women’s soccer, softball and baseball while assisting with football.
Carnes earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Kentucky. He graduated with a bachelor’s in physical education in 2007 and completed his master’s studies in exercise science in 2009.
He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the national strength and conditioning coaches association (NSCA)
