Mackenzie Whiteside

Whiteside joined the Navy staff in August of 2019. A veteran of the Big Ten Conference, she was both on staff at Michigan State during the 2018-19 school year and a four-year letterwinner at the University of Wisconsin. While with the Spartans, Whiteside worked with the team's novice rowing corps.

In her first competitive season with the Mids in 2020-21, Navy powered through an abridged season, in which the COVID pandemic allowed the Mids to race in just two regular season events before competing in the Patriot League and NCAA Championships. Navy swept the V8, 2V8 and V4 races at the Patriot League Championship to earn the program's sixth straight league title and eighth all-time; the sweep was the second in as many Patriot League Championships. At the NCAA Championship, all three Midshipmen crews raced in the C-Finals with Navy's V4 finishing 14th overall; the team placed 18th in the final standings. For the program's success Whiteside was recognized alongside head coach Joe Schlosberg and Megan Fitzpatrick as the 2021 CRCA Region 2 Staff of the Year.

Prior to working in East Lansing, Whiteside served in volunteer assistant positions at Wisconsin and Harvard. After completing her rowing career in Madison with the Badgers in 2016, she moved into a coaching position with the program the following season. That season with Wisconsin was followed up in 2017-18 at Harvard. Working with the Crimson's lightweight men's program, Whiteside helped the team rise to the No. 1 ranking in the national poll during the regular season and post a fourth-place result at the EARC Eastern Sprints. With the Crimson, she coached the fourth and fifth varsity eight crews throughout the year.

As a collegiate athlete, Whiteside rowed with the Badgers' lightweight women's team and consistently found high-level results throughout her career. Rowing with the team's varsity four, she won IRA National Championships in 2013 and 2016, in addition to earning a silver at the event in 2015. During her time with the Badgers, Whiteside was a three-time captain and served on the Wisconsin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Prior to her collegiate career, she was a member of the Mile High Rowing Club, as well as a swimmer at Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colo.

Whiteside graduated from the University of Wisconsin with Bachelor of Science in Genetics in 2016.
