• High School: A 2013 graduate of Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, Va., Hess attended VMI and was a member of the football program during the 2013-14 academic year ... graduated having amassed the second-most career wins at Deep Run High School behind Peyton Walsh, who is a two-time NCAA qualifier and team captain of the Navy wrestling team this season ... placed four at the state championship his senior year and seventh as a junior ... a two-time district champion ... member of four consecutive wrestling teams that were crowned district champions (2010-13) ... also a standout football player who garnered first-team all-district and all-region honors as a senior.

• Personal: Son of William and Denise Hess ... father played football at Millersville ... majoring in Nuclear Engineering, he boasts a 3.14 grade-point average ... named to the Commandant’s List in each of his first two semesters ... stands 230th in Military Order of Merit among his class (1,158).
