• Hovis in 2017-18 (Fr.):  Amassed a 16-6 record at 157 pounds in his rookie season ... won his first collegiate match by way of a 15-3 major decision over Michigan’s Ameen Hamdan in the freshman/sophomore division of the Eastern Michigan ... he went on to defeat Cleveland State’s Brady Barnett (8-2) and Eastern Michigan’s Mason Kauffman (8-2) to claim his first collegiate individual title ... defeated Army’s Beau Guffey by major decision (13-4) to take third at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial ... also competed at the Navy Classic, Southern Scuffle and Edinboro Open.

• High School: A 2017 graduate of Poway High School in Poway, Calif., Hovis attended Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Chandler, Ariz. his first three years of high school ... a four-year wrestling letterwinner, a four-time state champion winning three titles in Arizona (2014-15-16) and one in California (2017) ... was the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the country at 152 pounds as a senior ... multiple time All-American at the Cadet/Junior National Championships ... a Cadet Pan American Champion ... represented the U.S. squad that competed at the 2017 Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic.
