Entering his seventh year at the United States Naval Academy, Scott Maher serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Dietetics and Sports Performance. As Navy’s first full-time sports dietitian, Maher launched the Academy’s sports nutrition department in June 2019. Under his leadership, the program has grown into a comprehensive operation that supports all 36 varsity athletic teams.

Maher’s approach emphasizes individualized nutrition strategies tailored to each athlete’s needs. His work focuses on optimizing dietary habits, body composition, and energy balance to enhance performance in training and competition, while also supporting recovery, hydration, and injury prevention.

Before joining Navy, Maher worked at Rutgers University, where he began his career as a Strength and Conditioning Intern in 2015. He later joined the university’s newly established Performance Nutrition Department as a sports nutrition intern, eventually being promoted to Assistant Director in 2018.

A native of New Jersey, Maher earned his bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Rutgers University in 2014 and completed his dietetic internship through the Rutgers School of Health Professions. He is a Registered Dietitian, a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
