Four Navy Wrestlers Earn Preseason EIWA Rankings

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy wrestling team is ranked eighth in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) preseason poll released this week.
Pennsylvania, last year's runner-up at the EIWA Championship, sits atop the poll followed by Lehigh, Rutgers, Cornell, Harvard, Brown and Princeton.
In the individual rankings, four Navy wrestlers are ranked in the top six of their respective weight classes. Team captain Mark Conley (Sr./Exton, Pa.), the defending EIWA champion in the 141-pound weight class, is ranked first at 141, while Mike Bigrigg (Sr./Santa Ana, Calif.) is ranked second in the 197-pound weight class. Jim Letchford (Jr./Marlton, N.J.), who will drop down to the 174-pound weight class after spending last season at 184, is ranked fourth at 174. Junior Steve Kovach (Parkerburg, Pa.) is ranked fourth in the heavyweight division.
Navy opens the 2001-02 wrestling season Sunday at 9 a.m. when the Mids travel to the Central New Jersey Tournament in Ewing, N.J.
