First-Half Spurt Propels Navy to Victory at Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Down 19-11 midway through the first half, the Navy women's basketball team ran off 12-straight points and finished the half on a 30-9 run, helping the Midshipmen to a 69-55 defeat of host

Albany at the Recreation and Convocation Center Friday night.

"We had a solid team effort today," said Navy head coach Joe Sanchez, who's team ended a two-game losing streak and got back to the .500 mark (3-3) with the victory. "We executed on both ends of the floor, and I especially think our defense was turned up a notch tonight. Overall, we were very composed."

Courtney Davidson (So./New Oxford, Pa.) had a stellar shooting night for Navy (6-for-9 FG, 3-4 3-point

FG, 4-4 FT), finishing with a game-high 19 points. Classmates Maile Shimoda (Orange, Calif.) and Alison Luchsinger (Lusk, Wyo.) had 11 points apiece, while fellow sophomore Catherine Dunn (Aberdeen, N.J.) came off the bench to score nine points, tying a career-high (Feb. 21, 2001 vs. Holy

Cross).

Freshman 6-foot-4 center Danielle Hutcheson led three Great Danes (0-4) scorers in double-digits, netting 11 points. Guards Chris Gray and Kathryn Hemlock added 10 points each in the losing effort.

Navy will conclude its current four-game road trip on Wednesday night when they travel to Marshall for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
