The Navy women's basketball team will play host to the Pittsburgh Women's Basketball Association Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall in its final tuneup of the preseason.

"Pittsburgh has a solid roster with a number of players who recently ended strong collegiate careers," said Navy head coach Joe Sanchez. "We are still a young team, so we will have to overcome the experience factor Pittsburgh presents to us. They will provide a strong challenge for us on Sunday."

Overall, Sanchez has been pleased with the progress of the team through the first month of the season.

"Practice has been going very well for us," said Sanchez. "We are now at the point where we can start figuring out our depth chart and rotations. We want to utilize a nine-to-10 player rotation this season."

As he has commented several times during the course of the preseason, Sanchez noted the strong play of Lisa Steinmetz, Courtney Davidson and Maile Shimoda.

"Those three players have been the most consistent of anyone on the team," said Sanchez. "Lisa, Courtney and Maile really stabilize our backcourt, which we will rely on a lot early in the season. In the front court, we have been pleased with the progress lately of Bryanna Herring."

Navy will open its regular season Nov. 16 at the College of Charleston and Nov. 18 at Jacksonville.
