WILKES, Pa. - Navy wrestler Mike Simon (Jr./North Canton, Ohio) won the 133-pound weight class at the Wilkes Tournament Saturday afternoon with an 11-3 major decision over Franklin & Marshall's Rich Gebauer.

Simon defeated Nassau's Mike Trotta, 8-6, in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.

Junior Jim Letchford (Marlton, N.J.) defeated Boston University's Ali Abri, 9-5, in the third-place match of the 174-pound weight class. Letchford came back to defeat Abri after falling to Dominic Delgado in the fifth-round consolation match, 3-1.

"Mike Simon looked really good during the tournament, and I think this was his coming-out party," Navy assistant coach Joel Sharratt said. "He wrestled seven solid minutes in the finals and did a great job. Jim Letchford wrestled a ton of matches and battled hard during the tournament. Coming out of the Christmas break, our wrestlers performed above average, and we are looking forward to getting back to practice this week."

Nate Gulosh (Fr./Stow, Ohio) placed fourth in the 141-pound weight class, falling to George Mason's Rob Becker, 10-1, in the consolation match.

Luke Lazzo (Jr./Rochester Hills, Mich.) dropped a 3-0 decision to Cornell's Andrew Breiner in the consolation match of the 165-pound weight class.
